The British people would not the ones electing him PM: it is the MPs of his party. He won’t face the voters until HE decides to call an election.
I like many aspects of the British system but this is not one. I remember John Majors taking over from Margaret Thatcher; his party elected him their leader, thus the PM.
BUT the first time he faced actual human beings he was voted out of office because he was lacking in any redeemable leadership characteristics.
As to your “One”: The ambassador’s private cables were not “inappropriate.” He was giving his government/employer his candid assessment of Trump and Trump&Co. so as to better evaluate how best to deal with him/them. Not only were his cables not inappropriate, they were spot on in their assessment.
Christ on a cracker. What is going on over in the UK? When is Germany going to pressure State to replace our ambassador? Later today I hope. Someone in Western society most have a back bone, right?
I am reminded of the famous “British Officers Fitness Reports”, with such quips as:
His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.
I would not breed from this Officer.
He would be out of his depth in a car park puddle.
This Officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope - always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.
Since my last report he has reached rock bottom, and has started to dig.
This Officer should go far - and the sooner he starts, the better.
Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap.
This is what diplomacy looks like, lest we forget.
BTW, BBC Newshour wins the internet booby prize for contorting itself into a physically impossible asana of pussy footing around Trump’s part in the resignation, whilst calling out that other Irredeemable, BoJo, quite scathingly.
