As Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was in the midst of a public legal battle to keep mail voting limited in his state during the pandemic, he was also privately asking the Treasury Department to restrict the use of federal COVID-19 relief funding to promote vote-by-mail, according to a letter released Tuesday.
Butthead.
There is no good reason to fight to restrict “absentee”/mail-in voting as Texas has, except to discourage the “wrong kind” of voters.
And out here, they opened a central drivers license/state ID office at the airport - 10 miles from either city, with very limited bus service. To renew my license, I had to bring a bundle of documents proving US citizenship, state residency, etc. The license clerk didn’t look at a single document, but I feel certain that if I had not been white, there would have been a lengthy examination. The point is, it isn’t simple to get an ID for voting if you don’t drive and don’t have resources.
This fuckwad has been under indictment for tax fraud and financial crimes for almost 5 years now.
Two of his accusers were mysteriously murdered by “unknown intruders” and some others have gone into hiding because of it.
WHEN is he going to see the inside of a Courtroom as a Defendant? What the Hell is the holdup?
If this is his way of diverting attention away from his dastardly lawsuit laughed out of SCOTUS without so much as a response, it’s not working. We still remember.
This guy is dangerous because he’s shameless, morally adrift, and occupies a powerful position in state government.
Assholes like this guy make election reform a top priority for me in the next Congress. Every gap in the law is exploited. Every piece of legislation that moves, related to elections or not, is politicized. Federal election law needs to deal with fuckers like Paxton and Trump with prejudice against their fuckery.
I guess Ken Paxton is doing what any ideal state Attorney General would or should do. First, identify your political party’s political goals, then manipulate laws to favor those goals. Secondly, if your party’s goals can be advanced by a higher level of governance, do whatever you can to influence that higher level. I believe all this is contained in the state-approved Texas High School Civics textbook, Chapter 6: “The Role of the Texas Attorney General.”
