The Justice Department further confirmed on Wednesday that it’s beholden to the new President by moving to dismiss the prosecutions against two Trump employees charged alongside him in the Mar-a-Lago records case. In a filing, a DOJ lawyer named Hayden O’Byrne asked the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to dismiss the case. O’Byrne’s styled himself…
It isn’t clear why those charges weren’t dropped before TFG took over, and the report released. They knew there wouldn’t be any further prosecution.
I don’t think it would have mattered, Cannon was going to deny the ability to release anything until after Jan 20th and the whole thing would have disappeared. This way, it shows the corruption of the Trump DoJ, whoever did this might end up in trouble in the future for going along with what’s obviously a corrupt deal.
People complained about “complicity in advance”, this is a case where the DoJ followed the law and its rules all the way through. They had a rock solid case against these two, no doubt they would be convicted, so it’s a corrupt deal that the charges were dropped. And, it goes back to Cannon’s corruption as well.
We just have to hope that someone leaks the report, there will be copies out there so all it takes is some pissed off former DoJ employee who has a copy. We also have to hope that justice will be done in the future, but that’s gong to depend on Americans stepping forward and stopping all the illegal behavior and fixing things…we will have to wait and see if that’s going to happen. I’d like to think people understand what it looks like when a group tries to undermine a government and take it over, but I’m not so sure that’s enough for the average American to care anymore.
Projecting self righteousness is at the heart of the con. Works everywhere in real life too. Also, that’s what they’re selling at that fucked up tax free church.
Long shot, but can the four congressional leaders who were barred from seeing the report request to see it now that there is no active case? Can’t hurt to ask. Supposedly there is information in there that could be relevant to Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing.
You stupid fucks are beholden to “We the People”.
See how lightly and easily rule of law is brushed aside.
Consider the effort it will be to restore the rule of law.
Let’s understand this properly. A DOJ attorney asks a court to dismiss a prosecution, and the only reason is that the defendants have a friend in high places? Why isn’t this attorney subject to disciplinary action? I don’t mean within DOJ, but from the relevant bar association or grievance committee.
“Yes the truth is that men’s ambition and their desire to make money are among the most frequent causes of deliberate acts of injustice.” ― Aristotle, Politics
They can ask, but this DoJ will have already tossed the report. Congress should be stepping in to demand the report, it’s a special prosecutor report that is supposed to go to Congress, but this Congress (led by Republicans) won’t care. It really is going to have to be leaked in order to be seen.
I don’t think it works that way, prosecutors get to choose what cases to bring and if they want to continue them. If there was evidence of a bribe or criminal activity, then that lawyer would certainly be in trouble. But the lawyers got marching orders from their superiors, who were political appointees of Trump, and they have to do what they are told.
The corruption of the reversals starts far above whatever lawyer filed the motion, punishing the lawyer doing their job is not the right answer.
The fucking justice system (DOJ and courts) is broken. That’s it. Broken.
That Overton window shifted so far I can’t see it anymore.
Every sentient person knew the twice impeached convicted felon & rapist Trump would force his lackeys at DOJ to dismiss the stolen secret documents case against his two co-conspirators. That’s why the somnolent former AG Merrick Garland should have dismissed the cases without prejudice and released the report from Jack Smith.
But he dithered as usual and the corrupt Trump regime took over and the report of his criminality is likely to be lost forever.
Should be subject to FOIA after the prosecution is finished. That will take litigation though.
That looks like a long list of parties with an interest in the outcome of the case. Is it standard to list a ton of news orgs, or is he just flooding the zone?
This is how it happpens. Gradually and then suddenly.
Not if it’s illegal or violates professional ethics. But SCOTUS just ruled in the immunity case that trump can otherwise boss DOJ around, which is what he’s doing here.
Right, but their superiors telling them to drop a case is unlikely to be illegal, even if it’s winnable and the defendants are obviously guilty. I’m presuming that’s what happened, that the prosecutors are career ones doing what they are told…someone would have to read the motion and figure out who submitted it.
Does that immunity apply to anyone he orders to act illegally, or would they be in legal jeopardy if we had a real DOJ? I know that’s splitting hairs, since no one in this DOJ is going to prosecute anyone who carries out his illegal orders.
All corrupt Democrats are welcome to Trump’s big tent.
