A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Lawless Retaliation and Abuse Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s dark journey through the lawless Trump immigration system took another grievous turn Monday morning when he was detained by ICE in Baltimore only three days after being freed…
Zelenskyy to TFG - you’re not the boss of me now
On August 18, its defense minister said the country was now serially producing the Flamingo, a domestically manufactured missile touted to have a range of 1,800 miles.
Good. God.
This has now become my daily routine as expressed in the following images:
Me pathetically waiting for morning memo.
Me after I’ve just read morning memo expressing anger and disgust.
Me after I’ve absorbed the full impact of all this shit, have had a few, and am carried home in a drunken stupor . . .
Friggin’ glad I’m in the former Roman province of Gaul if for no other reason that morning memo actually hits at just about wine thirty over here . . .
No idea how you folks must handle it wired and hopped up on caffeine . . .
Sobering report from an American expat on international response to Trump 2.0. A thread.
It helps to focus the anger.
At last, the argument that the mainstream media avoids: American democracy has comprehensively failed because far too many Americans actually want dictatorship, performative cruelty, and the luxury of not having to think:
Carnival Cruise Line’s employee list runs deep. The cruise employs over 40,000 people spread across 120 different nations. Looking at Carnival Corporation, the entire company currently has 160,000 employees in total, making it among the largest cruise operators in the world.
The crew members were targeted due to their participation in an online chat group, one that had links to underage activity. However, evidence was not presented according to advocacy groups, while the employees denied the claims.
The crackdown isn’t anything new as the Carnival Sunshine ship has now seen 28 crewmembers removed since the spring.
NOTE
Overall, at least 100 cruise employees from around the United States have been deported due to visa issues.
Today’s Heather & Paul:
I wonder what the accuracy is without U.S. satellite-based guidance for targeting? I assume Trump is withholding? It was reported recently that the British long-range missile supplied to Ukraine would have problems for that reason with the U.S. forbidding deep attacks inside Russia. Ukraine must have some backup plan for targeting or they wouldn’t be deploying it.
An MSM headline we’re almost certain to see in the next year:
Can Trump Really Cancel the Midterm Elections?
Divided experts agree on one thing: “it’s complicated”
That’s how some us do it.
Its hard getting out of bed some mornings just to read about another day in tRump’s fascistic takeover of America.
More info here, including targeting.
During Watergate, the Washington Post and the New York Times both fought Nixon, hard. What the hell happened in the intervening fifty years? My personal theory is that Network and Idiocracy have become documentaries. It seems we all live under the “ancient Chinese curse”. Living in interesting times…
The Trump regime is clearly trying to gin up a conflict with France so that it can apply economic sanctions (probably on Putin’s orders. That explains why Gabbard ordered that details of the Anchorage meeting NOT be shared with NATO):
Read the Anna Bower post. The DOJ went out of its way to solemnly declare to Judge Xinis in Tennessee that the decision on Abrego’s immigration status would be made by an assigned case officer with no interference from the higher-ups. If anything is going to elicit an energetic court response in Abrego’s case, this is it. It’s flagrant.
It’s typical to learn from acknowledging your mistakes. But if, as with Abrego Garcia, you can only double down on your mistakes, you learn nothing. Of course, that assumes that anyone in this maladministration actually has the capacity to learn anything.
You know, I really enjoyed having four years of my first waking thought each morning not being “oh God what will that idiot do today.”
Some bright morning, that will be the case again.
tick tick tick
There are no words left to speak.
