Trump Won’t Go Near Tuberville’s Military Abortion Fit

Trump clearly has no idea what Tuberville is doing.

“Well, let me tell you. Let me tell you. Senator Tuberville, Tommy Tuberville, not Tooberville, but he is a great man. He’s a great senator. He is doing his thing right now, and he has the courage to at least speak up for his convictions. People agree and don’t agree, but that’s not it. He’s got the guts to do what he wants to do, what he thinks is good, and he loves the people of this country and the people of Alabama. And he’s in there fighting, which is unfortunately not true for a lot of other Republicans. We have great Republican support, but the Republicans have to learn to fight stronger and harder and smarter.“

Can you believe that bullshit? Can you believe people believe that bullshit?

IIRC, the purpose of a “hold” was to allow a Senator the time to get to DC to vote on something. Remember, it wasn’t until 60 years ago that a Senator from California could get to DC in less than one day rather than nearly a week.

But yet, just like the filibuster (which aren’t REAL filibusters), the “hold” has got to go.

it doesn’t say much for alabama voters…but the south has always worships football…why/ i have no idea…soccer is a much more demanding game.

Word salad makes it sound vaguely appealing. This, as with most of Trump’s responses, is more like a blender of word shit.

In short: the antiquated rules of the Senate allow even one Senator to block the shortcut necessary (unanimous consent) for the Senate to minimally function as a legislative body. Rather than fix the exploit, the Senate turned this practice (called a ‘hold’) into a de-facto process that could be used by either party to block nominees, kind of like the filibuster for legislation. As usual, a Republican (Tuberville) has ruined this gentlemanly agreement by abusing it to the point of harming military readiness.

You can find more details about how it works here:

Makes you feel bad that we got leaders in the country like that,” Tuberville said yesterday. “

This guy wouldn’t know leadership in the context of his current position if it whistled Dixie…and the Don opining about courage is one of the great oxymoron of our time…he wrote the book on cowardice…and revised it…and abridged it.

I think there are 2 reasons. One, as George Carlin once said, “it’s a land acquisition game.” And 2, because it’s so fucking simple even a southerner can understand it.
