“It is unclear why Trump reportedly believed the U.K. government could fulfill his request; the British Open is organized by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (aka the R&A), a private group.”

Because he is an idiot and want-to-be Mob Boss.

Fredo without the brains.

Grifting, cheating and snake oiling are the only things he knows.

New tone like the old tone, still a looney tune.

It’s also unclear why he believed he could buy Greenland, except that he’s an ignoramus. We need inquire no further.

He can’t understand that some things are not for sale.

The U.K. government has stormtroopers, too, right?

Of course he did, he also wanted to host the G7 at the Doral.

Trump must have read Idi Amin’s book titled “How to be a third world petty dictator”.

He is more of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro type of tyrant, a total moron that got lucky and thinks that he is a genius. Amin at least had the talent to climb the ranks and stage a coup.

He wasn’t expecting to pay anything for it. The British Open was supposed to be handed to him as tribute.

There have been great criminals in high office, lots of them. But there never was and never will be one anywhere near as cheap, tawdry, and embarrassing as this creature.

Remember the Emoluments Clause?

Trump does NOT want to be outdone by Ohio Householder…

He just has to have his own corruption scandal ie emoluments violation again…and again!

After all, the Rethug Senate has given him license to do whatever he wants and Yoo + Roberts has also given him some road map on how to do it…

So screw Emoluments…

It is ME-moluments and MY-moluments!

PS
It’s NOT just the “Get Me the British Open or the G7 Summit”
It is also “Fleece the US Govt through Trump Org properties”!

And the corruption and grifting goes on…by one of Trump’s most ardent supporter…

Gaetz, a close ally of President Donald Trump from the Florida Panhandle, improperly sent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to a limited liability company linked to a speech-writing consultant who was ousted from the Trump administration, in direct conflict with House rules.

Is it? Really?

Trump is famously ignorant of pretty much all things government and still believes national leaders are the equivalent of absolute monarchs who can compel anything. It would never occur to Trump that Johnson would not be able to move the British Open.
