Trump Tried To Get UK Govt To Have British Open Hosted At His Turnberry Resort In Scotland

Trump only ran for President to improve his brand. Surprisingly we have made it this far without a big-assed T on the White House.

I mean, with all the Air Force jets gassing up over there, how is that airport supposed to handle all that commercial traffic too ?

Exactly. My comment was: ā€œit’s not unclear at all, because he absolutely would pressure USGA to move the US Open if he thought it would benefit him personally.ā€

Johnson made ā€œno request regarding the British Openā€ in their discussions, the spokesperson said.

ā€œIt was more like a suggestion. Or the outlines of a quid pro quo. Some might say an ultimatum.ā€

I imagine there will be stuff like this coming out every few days now until the election.

Fredo has served his purpose. I think they will have Al take him fishing now. And - I hope they invite Bill Barr along too. The boat is big enough.

Imagine the GOP run on fainting couches and smelling salts had Obama done this — it would be the subject of hearings and impeachment. For Trump it will be a two day news item.

But Fredo was sweet as Connie told us.

Anyone foolish enough to still give money to the RNC deserves to be taken.

That’s what makes Trump so slippery: the pettiness of his corruption somehow obscures the enormity of his treason.

Yes, let’s arrest Hitler for jay-walking.

It’s clearly not even close to the most serious reason he needs to be removed from office yesterday, but ,an impeachment over jaywalking has this advantage, that it does not require our side to step up to public support of any public policy position. All of the really serious and consequential abuses of his office he’s engaged in involved public policy, and would require Ds to take responsibility and ownership of some bit of public policy were we to pursue him over such issues. But, the petty grifting involved here in Golftournamentgate, totally safe to pursue that.

And preemptively arrest them?

Another example of Trump ā€œlearning his lessonā€ as Senator Collins suggested.

Didn’t another diplomat refuse to do this and get pushed out? Also, is this guy connected to the Rbt Wood Johnson foundation that contributes to Public Broadcasting, et al?

True. The ā€œsale priceā€ was supposed to be ā€œgetting on his good sideā€ā€¦

I’ll bet they’re still laughing about this!

Lewis Lukens, a career diplomat who was serving as Johnson’s second-in-command at the time, was alarmed by the situation and flagged it to several State Department officials via email, according to the Times.

If you read the NYT article, Lukens was forced out of the State Department in retaliation. TPM needs to do a better job of reporting on other people’s reporting. The scandal here is that an honest career civil servant was purged for doing his duty to the US people and refusing to play along with the corruption of this administration and Woody Johnson’s cover up.

It’s unclear why he thought this would work? Have we forgotten that FuĀ¢kface Von Clownstick is the guy who thought Greenland was on the real estate market? Or that windmills cause brain cancer? Or found it a revelation that Lincoln was Republican?

Of course he was pushing to have the British Open at Turnberry, it is totally on brand for him. This is not al all surprising.
