President Donald Trump went on a peculiar tangent Friday as he defended his pressure campaign on foreign governments to investigate his political rivals.
Totally disconnected from the facts that show people, especially young people, running away from religion, and especially evangelical Christianity. This is to keep that group on his side, as if heâs the only one defending them against the onslaughtâŚif he can manage to make them identify with him being under attack then he can hold them. Itâs really a sign of desperation, Trump is flailing and watching things fall apart, so heâs grabbing at everything he can to try to keep it all together.
OT He is going to spin more and more into a Sunset Boulevard world of his own making, no matter what the sycophants try. I donât know how he can stand upright.
I donât know of course, but I would not be surprised if true, the hypocrites of our society are having a revival like never before. I am trying to remember an american christian leader with a significant following denounce the crook. They either praise him or excuse him or simply shut up. And that is for the same reason Republicans are cowered, their congregations are full of trumptards and trumpturds, and they would not do anything that affects the collections plate, brave soldiers of God.
However, one needs to remind those Evangelicals that âThou Shalt not Stealâ and âThou Shalt not Bear False Witnessâ are absolutes and canât be conflated the same way they do with the Constitution.
Every last one of them needs to be challenged on this. Because now, theyâre in violation of the most deeply held tenets of the Christian church. That ainât gonna help 'em in the Rapture.
ETA: Also the love thy neighbor stuff. Theyâve completely forgotten that too.
There is a coterie of mostly convention Southern Baptist evangelical pastors who are behind this. Robert Jefress, Tony Perkins, Franklin Graham, Jack Graham, and every one of them is a political actor. This isnât even about religion - itâs politics, period.
