President Trump offered a surprising response on Monday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) suggestion that he testify before the House committees probing impeachment — he’ll consider it.
He will use this only as an effort to delay the impeachment process, and if he ever did get around to answering questions, it will only be in writing and every answer will be couched in weasel words to avoid unquestionable perjury (to the best of my recollection, I don’t recall, my current recollection is, as far as I remember now…).
Exactly like in the Mueller investigation, where he was so eager to testify.
Precisely so. Dump as much sand in the gears as possible. House leadership should provide a “you may submit by” date, and when he inevitably stalls and hedges, just blast right by that and say, well, Donald, you had your chance.
Again he’s played by Pelosi. “You can do it the easy way, you feeb,” she says, and of course he has to loudly declare that he will “strongly” (consider) doing it in person like a big boy. Also bizarrely declare, if we even notice that anymore. Say it, don’t spray it, Mr. President.
…Trump Says He Will ‘Strongly Consider’ Written Testimony…
So, in other words, he won’t do it. Trump has not, as far as I can recall, done a single thing that he has promised to do at some point in the future or that he has considered – strongly or otherwise – doing. His only strategy is to run out the clock.
“Stongly” is a weird word in these contexts, but it’s a key word for understanding Trump.
When he says “We’re looking at that very strongly,” it usually means he hasn’t even thought about it and he will never mention it again unless forced to.
