I will say this tho…this all needs to be a unifying moment. We have had it out, yelled at some very ornery clouds, cleared many a lawn, argued passionately about how this should all proceed, disagreed vehemently, agreed obnoxiously, whatever…but this…THIS…this insane threat to everything we hold dear should be used as a rallying point. Team Sanity must prevail united and with our commonalities intact, front and center. This gets worse before it gets better, and we are going to need the strength of a cohesive movement to win out. Do not underestimate the enemy’s resilience or determination or take comfort in the idea that this is won. It’s not. It’s only beginning.

Yup. And Team Sanity also has to understand that advocating sanity is not a superpower, and there’s nothing about sanity that tends to make it prevail. Wild-eyed emotionalism is a superpower. Fear and the will to survive are superpowers. Sanity is helpful. It’s good for planning. But in the end if you’re fighting crazies you have to shoot them and if you’re in their trenches and they’re too close you have to bayonet them and if the bayonet breaks off in someone’s rib cage you have to turn the rifle around and start clubbing them until their skulls get crunchy and the white meat shows. Figuratively! With votes! But seriously this is a struggle that came along and made itself at home and we don’t have a choice.
