Trump’s List Of Sec. Of State Replacement | Talking Points Memo

Although Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denies that he is running for Senate next year, that hasn’t stopped competition within the Trump administration over who would replace him as the nation’s top diplomat.

At the rate things are going he might soon be running out of the country to avoid arrest for treason.

How about the laughing chimp @inversion always posts?

It would have far more gravitas and intellect than Pompous…

Why not Kushner with all his successes?

Running list.

Does that mean people running away before he offers them the job?

Or people running to accept the opportunity to grift and harm the U.S.?

Whatever … and can we just assume this will be an “acting” position for quite some time?

I know I’m nit-picking here, TPM, but isn’t it really Putin’s list?

Steven Miller isn’t on the list?
(You know it’s going to be Jared. That way he can be “in charge” of something and can also be conveniently out of town more often.)

I’d say Eddie Gallagher has gotta be near the top of that list…

In the video interviews with investigators, three SEALs said they saw Gallagher go on to stab the sedated captive for no reason and then hold an impromptu reenlistment ceremony over the body, as if it were a trophy.

Mnuchin is just as qualified to be SoS as he is Secretary of the Treasury. I think it will just be another “Acting” secretary for the rest of this “Administration.” Why not? It’s working great so far…

Every time I read anything about Pompeo I can’t help but feel we’re in the middle of another one of the tRump Crime Family’s newest grifts, involving the same tired old bait and switch notion of manipulating the public. Who the fuck cares who he replaces Pompeo with at the State Dept.? He’s already destroyed the purpose and functionality of that agency anyways. We all know it will be ten times worse, someone with even less experience at that department, and an even bigger sycophant than Pompeo…if that’s even possible.

Pompeo deserves to be criminally indicted, jailed while awaiting trial and convicted. Same goes for so many in tRump’s orbit still managing to escape accountability for defying Congress, withholding information the taxpayer has a right to know, and brazenly lying to the public on a regular basis.

I’m counting the days this nightmare has the potential to be over. Election Day can’t come soon enough.

He’s all yours, Kansas. Maybe you can put “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” on your next official license plates after you elect him your next Senator.

My thought exactly. That this man isn’t being fired, resigning, or trying to deflect attention but is going to run for the Senate tells you all you need to know about the country in 2020. Eddie Gallagher will soon be running for office.

If by chance Pomp doesn’t run Kobach will win it, so we’re screwed either way.

You don’t have one single Dem that could stand up to that insanity? You have a Democratic governor now, right? What about getting Sebelius to run? Anyone that has some kind of positive national name recognition would be ideal…I don’t know.

Well anyone who would be nominated would have to be confirmed by the Senate, so that’s going to make it harder for Trump to get a truly Trumpian pick in there.

IIRC, there are around a dozen folks running and as far as I know they’re all R’s.

It’s Kansas.

Invoke the McConnell Rule - “Either way, our view is this: Give the people a voice in filling this vacancy.” Clint Eastwood’s empty chair approach would actually improve US diplomacy.

OK here’s a name from way back, an early supporter, a man who got the most interestingly connected people to “advise” Trump during his campaign-Sam Clovis.

He’s got the Trumpian jowls, the “distinguished” that Trump likes to cast for, and he’s eminently unqualified for the position-so he’d be a shoe in.

Well, the good news is that becoming a Senator won’t keep him out of prison for past criminal behavior. That’s only reserved for Presidents apparently, at least while they’re still serving.

That’s exactly why I’m thinking he won’t be it. In fact, how many of Javanka’s cronies have ever held official positions?
