BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie for the Eastern District of New York injected some normalcy into former President Trump’s civil case against the Justice Department during a Tuesday court hearing.
“You can’t have your cake an eat it too,” Dearie replied.
Trump is dead. His own hand picked special master will throw him under the bus and then even Trump will have a hard time claiming bias against him when he’s already been granted so many favors no one else would ever get in a case like this. Only his most devoted and delusional followers will remain at his side after that.
Well, they did demand presidential records from both Obama and TFG. But this brings up the question, if TFG hadn’t hoarded presidential records in addition to the classified stuff, would we even be here today? It was NARA nagging TFG for more than a year to give them what they were due, eventually he gave them some stuff, and there were classified docs mixed in with the presidential records. That started the ball rolling with the FBI, DoJ, and counterintelligence. It’s a little scary to think that this high-level stuff could go missing for more than a year without someone raising hell. Unless this was a parallel construction operation.
When required to open their mouths in a court of law, Trump’s lawyers always seem to reveal both the ludicrousness of their positions and their own incompetence. And so it went today…
Trusty replied that it was “astounding to hear the government say the President’s attorney doesn’t need to know.” “I didn’t hear her say that,” Dearie replied. “We have a need to know,” Trusty retorted.
So, Donnie and his lawyers are going for a collective insanity defense?
I can’t see that simple denial of reality will be strong enough.
REMINDER: 18 USC 793 of the Espionage Act isn’t predicated on “classified” status but does apply to closely held national defense information the disclosure of which, if publicly known, could be used to the injury of the US or to the advantage of any foreign nation.
