The National Security Angle To The Menendez Case
Frau Menendez certainly looks the part of a third-tier mobster wife, which I suppose is appropriate for New Jersey. All the Snooki-Jersey Shore elements are there.
And FWIW, if the pressure from the Dems to resign becomes too intense, don’t totally discount the possibility that Menendez switches parties. Rubio and Cotten have already publicly defended him; the GOP obviously has no problem with one of their own being a criminal; it would change the Senate.
They’d almost certainly offer him a full committee chairmanship. Not saying this will happen, but he’s just slimy enough. I heard that when he was a Dem House member, he was so at odds with the Clinton administration over the Elian Gonzales repatriation to Cuba that he asked his staff whether he should switch parties.
