If I were the Euros (and others) I would make up the sanctions shortfall.

It would do two things: economic benefit for Iran and the Euros and drawing Iran into greater economic interaction with the West.

Punishing economic sanctions = “Today my jurisdiction ends here.”

All in all, the best we could have reasonably hoped for.

What an incoherent mess of a speech–in terms of both content and delivery.

The tick-tock reports on that half-hour delay before he actually gave it should be interesting.

In classic form, Trump placed the responsibility for Tuesday’s missile attack squarely on the shoulders of former President Barack Obama,

Bullshit, bullshit, lies, more bullshit, more lies, a big helping of ignorance, more bullshit…he’s just brought in a dump truck of bullshit, oh, there’s another one full of lies.

But the bottom line is he didn’t go to war.

It’s almost as much bullshit as what JFK told us about “winning” the Cuban Missile Crisis. Where we also didn’t go to war.

I lived through the night we didn’t go to war in 1962, afraid when I hit the rack that there would be a nuclear reveille, since we in the Navy on the west coast were worried about two Soviet “nuke boats” that it later turned out didn’t exist - but we didn’t know that then. Fortunately both sides blinked and Kennedy announced soothing lies about how we had dodged it, no mention of withdrawing missiles from Turkey, but we didn’t do Nuclear Holocaust that night.

I also lived through the night of August 4/5 1964, learning a month later from my best friend from boot camp who as the fire control technician on the Maddox in charge of the guns had three times refused to open fire on the grounds the only target in the darkness was the Turner Joy. We took that absence of the enemy and turned it into the Ur Lie of the War of Lies.

So, much as I hate the fucking moron, he listened to reason from someone and took the JFK exit from World War III.

No more threats of assassinations or bombings of Iranian cultural/religious sites? Looks like Kommeni has Donald as neutered as Pelosi.

Were there any specifics about these “punishing sanctions”? (I couldn’t stand watching him). I thought sanctions on Iran were already maxed out, and we’ve been just naming a few individuals here and there to freeze bank accounts. Which would make this just typical Trump chest-puffing bluster.

I’m a bit surprised that he didn’t string this out for a few more news cycles since the impeachment bugaboo is still on the front pages.

He did Putin/Khameini’s dirty work, and he’s getting rewarded with it by the US getting ejected from Iraq and ceding the field to the other players.

If I understand correctly, Trump claimed credit for recently defeating “100% of ISIS”.

Before saying that Iran should start working with us “to defeat ISIS”.

100% of which already is defeated.

Have I got that right?
