Who’s in charge of the Trump administration’s coronavirus response? During the White House press briefing Wednesday night, it was difficult to tell.
The Soviet style of having a political commissar on every initiative is very much alive in this, the most awful of, American administrations. Who better to lie, obfuscate, and spin than Pence? The professionals and scientists are aghast. Let’s see how they respond…

It will be the biggest response, regardless, the biggest and the best in the world, or maybe second biggliest because the VP is in charge.
Now, if POTUS himself was in charge, being already the chief medical officer in the land and such, it would be super bigly. But he is working on making everything great like it was which was the greatest, so Pence has got to do it.
Trump needed a reliable Lick-Spittle-Toady he can be sure will ALWAYS make The Don look good, and Smart, and In Charge, and a Genius (all evidence to the contrary be-damned.)
That is why he picked his favorite ass-kisser, Mike Pence.
So, great. Pence is in charge and reports directly to Trump. What could go wrong?

The Trump administration is ill-prepared for a global pandemic written in 2017.
Marching orders from Trump to Pence - I don’t care what the health professionals say, start saying whatever will get the stock markets back up! Don’t you know we have a major global crisis here? Stock markets are down almost 10%!!
So, don’t be surprised when we register only a handful of deaths from coronavirus, but seasonal flu deaths jump to a few hundred thousand.

Trump is leading from behind.
Trump can assign whomever he wants, but he knows he’ll bear the consequences. Azar has no public health background, coming as an attorney and a pharmaceutical executive. Pence, not so much either. Putting a real expert from the CDC in charge is anethema to these types, who don’t know a thing about what they don’t know. Be afraid.
Electing someone unqualified is one thing, but electing someone who selects unqualified people for important positions is worse. Many problems can be hidden by obfuscation or outright lying. But not so with acute health issues like this virus.
I know how this is getting reported–that Azar had had some prior notification that Pence would be point man–but, given this president’s (long) history of just, you know, making up stuff in the moment, it’s hard not to wonder if this is another one of those instances, and the bit about having been told beforehand is an attempt from Azar’s staff to help him save face.
As someone already pointed out, it also shocked the markets into a tailspin.
Have no fear though, Friar Pence will pray us all healthy.

So, Donnie’s decided to politicize the process.
Posters have mentioned a few possible outcomes. Unfortunately, with this unaccountable administration, we’re going to have to see just what the implications are.
