Fun Facts: The bill is effective immediately; Trump has already issued 11 tweets this morning (always a sure sign of distress); and Hitler was also a germaphobe.
You are correct. The story in Politico reports that the Purell guy is a “body man,” not a “bodyguard.” Although the idea of Trump making his Secret Service detail carry hand sanitizer to protect him from the germs is pretty sweet.
One of my “proudest” moments is forcing Trump to shake my hand in front of hundreds of people back in 2004, at a release party for his book Think Like a Billionaire. We (employees of his publisher) had been directed not to shake hands with him, but I found myself at the base of his escalator hating him with everything I had. How could I not shake his hand?
This is obviously symbolic. I know they’ve done psychological studies that show that people wash their hands more often after they’ve engaged in morally questionable behavior. Of course, Trump as a primitive, oblivious creature is unaware of it at a conscious level. But at some subconscious level, he knows he is doing morally reprehensible things on a daily basis and he thinks that using extra hand sanitizer will cleanse him of his wrongdoing. Sorry, Donald–it’s not going to work.
It occurs to me that germophobia may be the root of his various other strange afflictions except for his attraction to porn stars minus … ahem… “protection”.
I haven’t read the Politico piece (yet), but anyone who works in close contact with people can relate to this. For some people it could be kids, for others it could be the food worker who sneezes into her elbow as she’s making your sandwich, and in my case it’s being trapped in the hallway just after a lecture gets out, stuck behind some bro or giggly group of young women, all doing the slow zigzagging zombie walk while they check their phones for the latest updates on whatever, everybody sniffling and slobbering and coughing into their elbows or directly into my mouth as they come around the corner not looking up from their darn phones!!!111three!!!
Trump does not shake hands. He does not ‘work the rope line’ at all. He walks by crowds with a thumbs up and applauding the crowd, but notice he is never placed within an arm’s length of any random member of the public.
If I was so inclined.
If I was a highly paid but bored body man.
I might just replace the sanitizer mixture with some clear agar that had been incubating something swiped off the men’s room floor.
