It appears President Trump is still holding a grudge against his former attorney general.
While Republicans have indicated that they believe Jeff Sessions might be the party’s best chance at reclaiming the Senate seat in Alabama from Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), Trump’s “not on board” with the plan, according to Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL).
Take a good long look, Republicans. The leader of your party would rather lose a winnable Senate seat than let go of his most unjustified and petulant grudge.
I’m sorry, but I cannot get this line through my consciousness: “…especially when it comes to running against accused child molester…” This says everything you need to know about political power and the depths to which we have sunk as a society. The very idea that a person credibly accused of such vile behavior could even be considered - let alone supported - to be a United States Senator is simply beyond my comprehension.
This only matters if one is a republican, but not a member of the cult of Trump. To the cult - being in good standing with Trump (and thus Sessions = thrown out/cast aside) is all that matters. Even when that is self-defeating, per retaining power (for both the Cult and republicans who aren’t cultists) in the senate should matter more.
Is there any way to support both sides of this debacle? Can we encourage this kind of petty infighting? I find it entertaining, and it divides the GOP. The fact that their leader is so petty that he, as others have pointed out, cannot forgive someone for following the rule of law should be celebrated and shouted from the rooftops.
Trump couldn’t stand it if Sessions got elected, was not totally beholden to him (trump) and was liked and admired by members of the personality lacking GOP Senate Majority. Plus, imagine, he would have all of Jeff Flake’s and Bob Corker’s freedom to speak his mind without having announced he was not seeking reelection because all polling indicated he would lose. In other words, he might be a threat to Donald Trump’s need for constant praise and insecurity about even the hint of criticism.
This is true but I think very few national-level Republican politicians are really in the cult. There might be a few who aren’t in the House, and fewer still in the Senate. But most know what a disaster he is. They agonize in private. In this case I think Shelby’s making it clear, on the record, he thinks Trump is wrong. He’d rather keep that seat.
It just struck me.
I can’t think of a single person who Trump has not betrayed (or is about to), who is still with him, who hasn’t been cast aside when Trump’s failure or crime had to be placed elsewhere.
Even his children have been betrayed, his sons through his lack of guidance and moral counsel, and his daughter though his grotesque touching and lusting.
Queen Elizabeth gave Trump his real birth certificate from the British Archives (Kenya was still a British territory when Obama was born there), and Trump’s loyally sat on that, to protect his secret friend.
Trump Is Still Mad So At Sessions That He Doesn’t Want Him To Run For AL Senate
Okay, I may not be the sharpest person, especially when I’m midway through yet-another-week-of-chemo, but something is jussssst a bit off with that headline. It’s reminiscent of ‘All your base are belong to us’.
