The word that describes it best is gulag.

Our POTUS is trying to make disappearing people de facto “normal”.
Do it often enough without any kind of hearing or warrant, ignore court orders to provide due process and trust that he can continue, even expand, the practice to native-born Americans without judicial or any kind of obstacle.
I’m reminded of Henry II and his mafia-boss signal to his knights.

Terms like gulag or concentration camp are ok but what about getting innocent non-gang members out? Worry about terms for this place in El Salvador later… get the innocent out!!! Before I knew of CECOT I had considered a visit as a tourist. Not anymore.

What about getting everyone out and trying suspected gang members in our legal system, which is perfectly capable of properly dealing with people who have committed crimes, assuming anyone who was sent there has actually committed any crimes in the United States that they can be charged with?

Using a loaded term to describe a group of people is done to get an emotional reaction that justifies abhorrent behavior by the administration.

Is Mark Alan Stamaty still with us and hopefully still working?
I’ve got that early 1980s feeling, Jesse Helms with Colonel Bob (Mr. Death Squad) in tow, charming the Senators who were too slow to flee. Nobody
captured the zeitgeist as well as Stamaty then, but today? There’s nothing
to smile about.

Not that it’s any surprise, but I’d say we now know for sure that if Trump had been in charge of a country in the 1930s and 1940s, he would gleefully have handed people over to the Einsatzgruppen. And he would have gleefully sought the opportunity to do so.

Not to split hairs, but Stalin’s gulag was an “archipelago” or network of prisons where political enemies were worked to death. I presume Bukele could expand into the archipelago business and get rich, but right now he apparently has only one prison.
Stalin had his own gulag. We’re renting one.

Gulag. It’s the Salvadoran-American Gulag.

“However, even when news coverage and criticism has acknowledged Trump’s vision is almost certainly illegal and unquestionably dangerous, it has often used fairly normal terminology and referred to the flights as deportations to a ‘prison.’ That is not what is happening. President Trump is sending people to the camps.”

“In other news, Pope Francis continues to show improvements as he recovers at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta; African Union representatives met to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Darfur; and the President of the United States rounded up another 30,000 protestors, shaved their heads, tattooed their arms, and shipped them to the New Salvador Re-Education Camp and Asylum for the Politically Insane. Now, here’s Bob with the weather…”

So it’s like Hotel California? You can checkout anytime, but you can never leave?
But when it comes right down to it, these men have never been tried, or sentenced for their implied crimes. Except for Garcia, most are not Salvadorian. What we the American taxpayers are paying for is a concentration camp.

I think we’ve known that for a certainty since MbS

“Leavitt invited a woman to the podium whose daughter was killed by an undocumented migrant.”

Who will invite a woman whose husband was disappeared, or a child whose father was disappeared?

This is a particularly vivid instance of every accusation being a confession. They’re parading victims of crimes before the public to justify their own criminal victimization of a person who has been disappeared and so can never appear before the public.

Trump doesn’t have a sliver of moral consciousness or fellow-feeling for any human being. Nor do any of his sycophants that I’m aware of, it appears. I suppose he’s very good at spotting the potential employees who have no empathy or ethical compass. He’s certainly never wanted to have anyone with those qualities in his circle.

Kafka (pictured above) hates it when our other cat tries to, err, split hairs, and groom him. He’s so affectionate with people, but can’t stand cats.

The role the gulag plays is a demonstration of absolute power, designed to haunt the imaginations of citizens. It is state terror. If any individual (even if any one individual) can be exiled and sent to a forced labor camp, without any recourse to the law, where they will be effectively dead, this is a powerful tool of oppression.

When we are seeing students punished for their speech by being sent to a gulag, the rest of us will start moderating our speech.

This concept of absolute state power is what the 14th amendment was about. It was a follow-up to the 13th, itself horrifically inadequate, and supposed to take the states out of the business of oppression and slavery. The 14th amendment clearly is written so that it applies to even non-citizens, perhaps especially to non-citizens. It is crystal clear in both word and intent, in the current administration is violating both the word and the intent.

This is completely off topic, but if I don’t rant right now, I’m going to explode. RFK Jr going after autism as if this is some sort of huge emergency, as if somehow the increase in children identified and given access to care is somehow a problem makes me want to fucking ******** him.

This is like arguing that we have an increase in children identified as queer, and that this is a bad thing. This is like arguing that we have an increase in children with mental health issues, as if the very idea the diagnosing more people is a bad thing.

This is worse than arguing against testing for diseases because the test will show the disease is more prevalent. It is worse, because autism is not a disease. Autism is not a disease. It’s a condition, and one that vast amounts of people suffer (and many don’t suffer!) from without even realizing it.

I am autistic. My children are autistic. We don’t need your help, Bobby. Get the fuck out of our lives. Now.

Is this an AI-generated photo? One of Bukele’s hands looks like a normal man’s hand, while the other one looks like a woman’s hand. Of course, the fingers of both of Bukele’s hands are longer then the fingers of Chiselin’ Trump’s hands.

I would never visit CECOT!

At least, not voluntarily.
