A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. I think there’s zero chance of getting the courts to fix this nastiness before it is too late - we’re all going down the drain.

Seems like it’s time for the courts to go after the head of the Treasury dept. for non-compliance WRT the disbursement of already approved funds. He does not have TSF’s immunity.

What a repugnant country we have become…bailing out sex trafickers and bringing them over.

They’ll be hired by the administration this week, I’m sure.

No, but he can expect a pardon for anything he does.

IDK TSF is pretty tight with his pardons. If Bessent (I think) gets his helmet dinged or worse by the courts and he proceeds to comply or gets dumped or arrested for non-compliance, I could easily see TSF wash his hands of him - no longer useful, didn’t get the job done.

  • Some law firms are reluctant to represent fired or targeted DOJ officials for fear of backlash, Bloomberg Law reports: “Some firm leaders, citing corporate clients threatening to walk if they get crosswise with Trump, have rejected outright or put up roadblocks to partners seeking approval to represent DOJ lawyers, FBI agents, and other civil servants who’ve faced various forms of attack, three lawyers familiar with the decisions told Bloomberg Law.”

Greedy bunch of white shoe cowards.

Re Gene Hackman roles: Harry Caul is the gold standard. I’ve seen that movie a half dozen times and it is as good today as it was when it was made in the early 70s—‘71 I believe? Wow. What an actor. They probably knew it was time to go and they left….

I’m still also processing the Washington Post’s (may it rest in peace) new position. This is the type of nonsense that passes as serious journalism at WaPo now? Really?

My former questions centered on why the headlines in the Post weren’t identifying the lies coming from Trump and Musk and their minions on a daily basis? The Post ran (for a while) a calculator stating the number of excess Covid-19 deaths resulting from Trump’s policies (or lack thereof) during the crisis. Then the Post stopped.

Is the WaPo concerned about retribution? Their slogan states “Democracy Dies in Darkness”, but perhaps it ought to be modified to “Democracy Dies in Darkness - for a Price”. How much does it cost to silence it? Apparently no one on the Post bothered to ask Mr. Bezos. He can give you the number he accepted.

Katharine Graham must be spinning in her grave. She showed the world courage. Bezos its a fraud. Well, I’ve finally given up my subscription to WaPo and blocked all future electronic communications from their site. I wanted the discount subscription emails to end.

We are approaching the 250th anniversary of our National experiment and for the first time, we all should be very worried about our future. Without an unbiased fact hungry press, the citizens of this country are in the dark. It will take a long time to recover. And the cost in human lives because of incompetence furthered by decisions that simply hurt people being made by this administration and the Republican controlled Congress will be a major historical stain on our history.

This is what the citizens in this Nation voted for. May they survive until true leadership and sanity resumes.

A model for forecasting political instability developed in the US, finds a "high risk of impending political instability (i.e. adverse regime change or onset of “systematic and sustained” political violence; worst case “collapse of central authority”). In the model, Jan 6 would be considered an attempted coup, and Jan 20 a successful coup. Watching Starmer today, you get the impression in Europe is acting accordingly, i.e.unctuously, around Trump.

True assessment. If they stood against the threats, TSF would have to back off. By complying, they just set themselves up for the next act of fealty that he’ll inevitably demand.

"They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” - DJT

But this is different. Romania isn’t sending its criminals to us, we’re importing them from Romania, so all is good.
