Trump Impeachment Lawyers Are Now Representing Alleged Capitol Rioters | Talking Points Memo

I like the Orange Is The New Black description: Pennsyltucky.

These two run a personal injury firm. Ambulance chasers.

Not exactly the most likely people to approach for defense against insurrection charges.

I think there’s a good chance it’s pro bono, for the exposure and reputation building among Republican clients.

Castor probably cherry picked a case where he thought there would be a good chance of getting the defendants off with a jury acquittal, or at worst a wrist slap. The Mom apparently doesn’t speak any English, so maybe he’s hoping for jury sympathy. And then he can use a good outcome for promoting his law firm.

I’m not sure it isn’t just lawyers with alimony payments that require them to touch things that are too icky for anyone else to touch, with a partisanship add-on.

Pro bono is a possibility, but I don’t think it’s especially likely. These schmucks are all going to plead guilty or get convicted, and absolutely nobody is rallying to their cause. And none of these lawyers were pro-insurrectionist during the impeachment trial. The most obvious explanation is that they’re getting paid by their idiot clients.

21% of Republicans say “the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was justified.”

31% deny that “the loser in an election must concede defeat.”

40% say the 1/6 perps shouldn't be prosecuted. (Only 38% say they should.)

53% say Trump is “the true President.” https://t.co/fkPBWI21x3

Interesting aside about cognitive dissonance: In Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind, Yuval Noah Harari posits that cognitive dissonance is a normal, essential quality of a fully functioning society.

Discord in our thoughts, ideas and values compel us to think, reevaluate and criticize. Consistency is the playground of dull minds. Can you name a single great work of art that is not about conflict? . . . Cognitive dissonance is often considered a failure of the human psyche. In fact, it is a vital asset. Had people been unable to hold contradictory beliefs and values, it would have been impossible to establish and maintain any human culture.

The Mom and daughter he’s representing are pleading not guilty. They’re being charged with unlawful entry of Capitol grounds, not entering the building. They’ll probably say they were unaware they were breaking any laws, which isn’t an excuse but it could sway a jury. Especially with the immigrant mom who doesn’t speak English.

I dunno, maybe Castor is doing it for the money, but this smells like a cherry-picked case where he could get an easy acquittal. Like, you know, the impeachment trial…

OT but delicious: Gohmert just wondered if the Forest Service or BLM could help fight climate change by altering the orbit of the earth or the moon.

See previous comment.

The nature of comparison is a prima facie case of contradiction: investigating (analysis itself is an aggressive process) how one subject differs from another is in and of itself conflict.

Boebert and MTG are coming for the House championship belt, and the unification bout against the winner of the RonJon/Senator Coach Tuberville match should be one for the ages.
