Trump Impeachment Lawyers Are Now Representing Alleged Capitol Rioters | Talking Points Memo

Attorneys Michael van der Veen and Bruce Castor who just months ago condemned Capitol rioters in defense of former President Donald Trump during a Senate trial over allegations that he incited the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack, are now defending at least three people charged in connection with the Capitol breach.

It’s unclear how the onetime Trump defense attorneys came to represent the alleged Capitol rioters

Who is paying them? Or is this a pro bono do-over after their impeachment arguments resulted in negative publicity (for the attorneys)?

There’s no inconsistency here in these lawyers’ choice of clients. The common thread is that they believe all terrorists deserve adequate representation.

As opposed to the Antifa rioters who created unprecedented havoc, mayhem, and death, my innocent clients who were mere tourists and spectators deserve acquittal and maybe even a thank you from a grateful nation.

It’s the pay check I suppose

I don’t mean to sound naive, but isn’t this what lawyers do? Defend the accused, any accused, regardless of politics? Heck, murderers get to have lawyers, and most do. Where’s the outrage? Having a decent legal defense is a basic right under our system. Right?

The mob boss always sends ‘trusted’ counsel to represent the arrested lieutenant, just to make sure he doesn’t sing.

In February, while securing Trump’s acquittal,

Which required all of the attention of their autonomic nervous system. Ahh, who am I kidding. Both their hearts could have stopped beating and Senator Grassley would still ask “How was BLM involved?”

Figures that Castor gets to represent the Russkie spies, reward for doing so well the last time defending one.

Well, that makes sense. These lawyers only take clients who are known, hardened, unrepentant, criminals. Not surprised.

Of course. Even scum have the right to be ‘defended’.

I wonder if there’s a way for the prosecutors to introduce the defense lawyers’ statements as evidence.

Think about it this way… Out of all the lawyers in America, these two show up, and with one of them defending the mom who needed a russkie translator at her hearing.

You need to understand, that there are only so many Trump supporting lawyers with any experience in existence. So they get reused, especially if their fees are being paid by a GOP backed group.

Van der Peen! He was the guy who droned endlessly and pointlessly all day Saturday so his fellow nobody could observe Sabbath, if I recall correctly.
