Fear-mongering over “open borders,” dog-whistling about crime-ridden cities run by Democrats, cop fetishization.

Thats all you got, Trumpy?

Pathetic. Even RWNJ Erickson was tweeting “wrap it up”.

In his remarks, the President vowed to “defeat” COVID-19 “and emerge better than ever before.”

Yes, he has no ideas because has no idea.
Yes, he’s tired because he’s old, along with monotone speaking style.
Stephen Miller is the Hatemonger, while Trump is the Fearmongerer.

I someone poor soul in the WH kept track of the costs and sends the Trump 2020 campaign a bill for renting our House, our mall, and the electricity used tonight.

And then someone with the campaign takes it and throws it in the trash with all the other bills they haven’t paid for the past 4 years.

“Danger to the nation”: Hmmm. Doesn’t that mean that it will be a “national catastrophe” if Evil Old Joe gets elected? Isn’t Trump laying out the justification for holding power even if Biden “wins” the election? Isn’t he promising that he–Il Duce–will do whatever it takes to save us all from a fate worse than death? Isn’t he explicitly promising to steal the election and pull off a coup d’etat come November, no matter what the (phony, of course) election results say?

No mainstream president or presidential candidate, including Richard Nixon, has ever said anything like that. You don’t use rhetoric like Trump’s without making that kind of explicit warning.

Be warned.

As the late great Pete Hamill once wrote about Trump;
“He turns hate into a luxury product”. Tonight’s festivities are the logical end of it.

Trump sums up his whole presidency: “We’re here, and they’re not”

And that’s why 180K+ Americans are dead and counting in this pandemic!

It looks to me like the coronavirus hijacked the White House for this event. It would take a supercomputer to calculate the permutations of possible spread from 1,500 people. The Biogen super-spreader event in Boston involved just 175 people, so yes, what we saw was history being made tonight.

Cult of Personality, so more Stalin, I guess.

Trump Hijacked White House For RNC Speech

Hijacked? He might as well be trying to turn it into a Trump hotel.

May his name, his “presidency,” and his entire family go down in these kinds of flames.

Welp, if you didn’t watch, you missed 70 minutes of low-energy Trump clutching the podium like a life preserver and braying out his usual nonsense. Seriously the short answer is he was flat and sounded tired, with that usual kind of strange, fey, aggressively effete tone where the sentences end with a falling inflection that sounds defeated and apologetic, as if he knows the routine doesn’t work any more and never really did all that well. It’s the way he talks when he’s self-consciously trying to be a great orator, the way he scowls in that stupid pissy way when he wants to seem tough and serious. It’s just all wrong. It was a third-rate rock band playing a medley of their greatest hits from 1979 at the state fair at 4 in the afternoon. The crowd leapt to their feet for every applause line, but they sounded defeated too, and a lot of the applause lines were distinguished more by the expectant pause than any degree of real, you know, applause. It was the kind of applause you get for an only-fair set of comments from the best man, where people laugh feebly at the jokes because they recognize them as jokes, not because they’re actually very amused. If there’s a takeaway, it’s that Trump is bored and frustrated, he strongly suspects he’s going to lose and he knows it, and everyone else knows it, and they’re all going through the motions with no particular conviction that things are good and this is all going to work out well. His own daughter acknowledged this directly. (“You may not like his style.”) They’ve had four years and they fucked those years into a cocked hat. It’s the Democrats’ message that will resonate—he’s just not good at this. He’s not up to the task. Can’t do it. Turn him out of office. Come with me if you want to live. There are a lot of ways to put it. Let’s finish the job, gang. Do what you can. It’s on us now.

So did he play the Jazz Odyssey?

haha you can’t talk about a band on a downward arc without Spinal Tap coming to mind. That gig at the air force base—OMG I’ve been in bands and that’s a thing. You’re a bottom feeder now and you know it.

Great comments, as ever.

Team Joe is asking for volunteers to make calls from safe states to swing states. Easy sign ups. This was what they sent me.

Smart, passionate, baritone Mario Cuomo did this and I got chills. And he did almost every sentence.

Addled, spent, alto Donald Trump does it and he sounds like an eighth grader phoning in his assigned speech on “Valor.”
