Trump Held In Criminal Contempt For Stonewalling NY State Probe

John Gotti died in prison, iirc.

Five decades of Trump acting with impunity proves the judge will be futile in his actions.

Well, it is tough to cry about wasting MAGA-money that would otherwise go toward committing more effective malfeasance on Trump’s behalf.

Trump will never spend a day in prison.

I strongly suspect she’s doing it solely for the MAGA publicity, just like Rudy did.

And it certainly worked out well for Rudy … until it didn’t.

So…how is the NY court gonna collect?

True. Trump will be released on pretrial detention, and he’ll stroke out before sentencing.

As I said, and as you agree, he’ll never spend a day in prison. If you can commit serious crimes yet avoid incarceration or other serious penalties for doing them you are effectively not subject to our laws.

Without digging into the details of NY civil procedure, and assuming Trump doesn’t pay it voluntarily, the court would eventually issue judgment in favor of the AG for the accrued amount of the fine and the AG would then proceed to collect upon it just like every other award of civil damages. That means seizing bank accounts and other assets sufficient to pay it off.

I predict an investigation by the attorney disciplinary commission of her state of licensure if she pushes the Trump defense too far.

Trump will just file suit contesting the seizures, dragging out any payment of the fines several more years.

It’s certainly possible, she does take a hell of a lot of frivolous positions on Trump’s behalf.

It most certainly does - it helps shift the narrative from “Trump is invincible!” to "And now they’ve charged him in New York!" and then to “Hell, and now he’s been convicted in Washington DC for the Insurrection stuff!” His cult members won’t go along, but the rest of us (the, you know, actual majority) will cheer.

(And I have to add that I do love this site, but mon Dieu we have more than the usual share of Debbie Downers and Eyores… )

Habba also alleged that James filed the motion for contempt without prior notice, “seemingly in an effort to turn this matter into a public spectacle.”

Feels like Habba binged Better Call Saul and took it as a “how-to.”

That’s what Stormy Daniels said…

You’re reading my fantasies again. Sorry about the other ones, though.

And then he’ll file lawsuits against those lawsuits, and then he’ll sue over those outcomes, and then it will all be mooted when the Marshal of the Supreme Court releases the Freedom Eagle to announce the anointment of God-Emperor Donald I.

In other words, it doesn’t work that way.

Doesn’t he own a small property or two in New York?

I believe, (I could be wrong), that the fines are refundable once he complies. And, I’m not sure what enforcement options are available… I mean, if he neither pays, nor complies with the subpoenas, what happens? (Also, as a practical matter, I’m reasonably sure fines are not dischargeable under bankruptcy.)
