Trump Has Said Privately He May Replace Esper After Election | Talking Points Memo

Too much. Sadly. Already hanging by a thread after his defiance of Trump in D.C.

Remember when you said you’d rather be run by Europe? Well, if Trump goes completely around the bend and pulls a military coup. the EU just might make your dream come true via the UN.

And that would be mostly OK by me too.

He’s not going to. But he may well try, and things like this are worrisome.

I agree but it wasn’t unforeseen after Esper disavowed the Lafayette Park action.

OT: Biden and Harris are about to speak at a joint campaign event. Isn’t this going to conflict with Trump’s regularly scheduled failed standup routine in front of the press?

I wouldn’t have the same suspicion if he had just fired him then.

That he intends to wait for November 4th, that’s concerning.

Yeah I get what you mean.

Funny he announces it in advance, though. So now there are 15 election lawyers at the DNC running their assistants around the library looking for answers to something that has never happened here.

Well this is being reported in two different ways - that Esper is stepping down and has planned to no matter who won the election and that Trump has planned to replace him.

I can’t tell which came first.

Exactly! Esper got called out today by retired Generals, telling him he’d better not allow Trump to stay in the WH after losing. That pissed Tubby off, so he is going to put in a toady who will defend his decision to never leave. Just wait, Mike Flynn will be put in this position.

My only question is when you’re building those barricades in the street, do you hook that stuff together or do you just stack it up?

Oh.My.God.
You mean to tell me that the Founding Fathers actually studied History?
They read? And they actually learned from that?

I’m sure Trumpty Dumpty would say that nobody knew that.

Yes. That is my point. Giving up is really not an option. If you believe in something, you chase it through all the bobs and weaves that might be thrown at you. And that means you will change to match it as well.

Esper is not sleazy enough. Dumpsterfire is looking to make the military loyal to HIM over the US constitution and laws.

God help us all if he refuses to leave and the generals back him up.

Can’t happen here?

To be fair, that was all a while ago, so there was a lot less history to learn. And so much more has been added in English, so a lot more to learn! I mean, who has the time?

Esper is dead man walking … and he is very peculiar - feints in the direction of breaking hard against Trump … but then wilts …
Realistically - Esper is being kind of stupid - either be a sycophant … or don’t … but this crap is getting you destroyed by initially pissing Trump off & then folding and coming around to weakly support most of what you initially said you opposed … Trump is still pissed at you … still wants you to be beaten with a baseball bat - and you are still going to get tossed out on your ass - with a snarky insulting send off from Trump.

What is ominous will be the nature of that replacement - an “acting” ? an aggressive militaristic hard line creep more than eager to rain harsh domestic assaults down upon a contrary population?

Not as far as the gop is concerned

Well, a good temporary solution but they’re plastic, right? But they’ll melt when we set the barricades afire!

Aww, I was just getting used to the new, ever-so-slightly spineful Capt Procurement too.
