It’s very difficult to pray for nothing.
I’m surprised that the sick fuck didn’t use the triple tiara in his papal cosplay.
I’ve taken to calling incoming news as “multiple firehoses of madness”. Once in a while I consider what the responses would’ve been had Biden behaved as trump is doing… including dressing up as the pope.
It has a line for my email address, and below that, an icon to “Continue Reading” - so I guess it’s required to share the address, with the downside that WaPo then will have my email address - but they already do, or have in the past, I received subscription solicitation emails from them almost daily.
Looks like an interesting read - hafta ponder.
I archived it here: https://archive.ph/TYkl1
That should display without any hurdles to clear.
Ross Douthat would have personally conducted the excommunication ceremony and ensuing auto da fé.
“Tragically, I fear that most political and ideological beliefs are motivated in the same way”
I’ve read in a couple places that Norman Podhoretz only went right-wing berserk after a popular liberal lunch companion (George McGovern?) made an ungentlemanly remark about the physical appearance of a woman dining at a table nearby, the woman in question being Podhoretz’s spouse. Might be post hoc, ergo propter hoc though.
Religion, not just Christianity, is rife with easy, simplistic answers that are ultimately meaningless.
Words, thought or spoken, have no effect on imaginary things.
Awesome, thanks!
He’ll repost anything that he thinks trolls the libtards. And the gold connection is spot on. US Presidents have more worldly power than the Pope, but he loves the opulence he can’t achieve in the WH. Mar a Lago is just a pale reflection of what he’d really like in Dictator decor.
I love the way Judge Howell found that Trump’s action against Perkins Coie “violates the First, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and is therefore null and void.”
She ordered all the restrictions on Perkins Coie to be immediately reversed, to halt all security clearance review of the firm, and ordered the administration “to notify all officers, staff, employees, and independent contractors subject to Executive Order 14230 that Executive Order 14230 is unlawful, null and void in its entirety and therefore should be disregarded, including all prior formal or informal advice, opinions, or direction previously received or communicated to effectuate, implement, or enforce Executive Order 14230.”
This should be expanded to cover all the other EOs Trump issued to punish other law firms, and should render the concessions some firms made null and void as well.
The people who talk about this have a very (very!) broad definition of indoctrination! For example, it has been true for a long time that the majority of academics tend to be liberal or progressive in their own personal political lives…And the Horowitz’s of the world argue that the existence of so many of these people as figures of authority and knowledge around the campus indoctrinates students because some students look up to teachers and to people who write books (even books about calculus)…
I remember one example from some years ago where a course about conflict resolution was considered an act of indoctrination just by existing because the course description stipulated that it would only cover peaceful means of resolution. That was called suppression of people with other views – and Horowitz and other conservatives used it as an example of how their voices were shut out of the academic conversation, turning that conversation into indoctrination.
When you want something fervently enough, you find ways to justify your desire!
The other possibility I’m trying to present, the existence of “the soul” aside.
If you’re a cult leader, they let you do it.
Yesterday, there were images being circulated of a seated Trump being bowed to by some Christian pastor. When you’re the chosen one of millions of people you get to get away with doing all manner of weird shit, from monetizing the presidency to circulating images depicting oneself as Pope. It’s all of a sort.
It’s like they took the legislature of some rabidly red state and used it as a template for governing the entire nation.
This !!
My thought about cutting medicaid is it is going to be very difficult to accomplish. Trump isn’t a small government Grover Norquist style Republican. My guess is in the end Trump will accept some minor changes that won’t really srimk the program but will sound like great PR and simply lower taxes and explode the deficit.
If they really want to reduce fraud and abuse they will cut the defense budge in half and lower the budget that way. I haven’t heard a word about reducing the defense budget. Have you?
You like to predict. Can you give me some loto numbers?
