What happened to deporting criminal immigrants back to their country of origin after they have served their sentence. Or at least after they’ve had their court appearances and sentence given?
I mean, last fiscal year under Biden, he deported 271,000 illegal immigrants
President Joe Biden in 2021 had pledged to pause deportations, but his administration ended up expanding it following a surge in border crossings.
In the newly released report, ICE said the steep climb in deportations last fiscal year was partly the result of a streamlined process.
More deportations flights went to further away destinations, including Africa and Asia, which did not accept US deportations for years, the agency said.
A majority of the deportations in fiscal year 2024 involved migrants apprehended by border officials compared to those ICE arrested in the US interior.
If only this info had been the response every time TFG and the GQP complained and lied about “open borders!”
In the 12 months after Title 42 ended, the Biden administration ramped up deportations under the standard U.S. immigration framework, Title 8, and removed or returned 775,000 unauthorized migrants—more than in any previous fiscal year since 2010. From May 2023 through March 2024, 316,000 migrants were processed via expedited removal, more than in any prior full fiscal year. And for the first time since FY 2010, in FY 2023 more migrants were returned directly across the border, mostly to Mexico, than were removed from the U.S. interior. Whereas President Barack Obama was labeled by some as the “deporter in chief,” this new trend may earn President Joe Biden the title of “returner in chief.” Notably, authorities have deported migrants to more than 170 countries during the current administration, which may be the most ever.
He never did get that title. And most people will never know.
Different people will evaluate this latest bit of excess in different ways. I happen to agree with you, but I’m sure you’ll agree that neither of us can tell others how to feel about something like this.
Mind you, if Trump had produced an image of himself as Jesus, Moses, The Buddha or Mohamed, the disapprobation would have been universal, me included. But we’re not there — yet.
Here’s what’s coming, and soon. Trump is going to announce there is much significant progress in getting other nations to agree to more favorable treatment of the U.S. in our trade markets. Therefore he’s going to extend the delay in the imposition of the worst of the tariffs. And for those tariffs already in place he’s going to selectively reduce some, and eliminate others. All as gestures of good will and good faith bargaining, to allow more time to hammer out issues.
Everyone in the White House sees what’s coming. Trump will reluctantly step back from the ledge.
All the perks and none of the work - every MAGA’s dream. The exact same way Trump has lived his entire life.
Yesterday we had a little happy hour here at the retirement community. There is this one guy, quite well to do, who is really loving his big fish in a small pond moment. He had all of his MAGA gear going yesterday, including a brand new “Gulf of America” hat. When he went over to harass the staff about something, his hat got knocked into a particularly disgusting trash can near his table.
Islam takes the sin of graven images of Mohammed deadly seriously. Literally. I can see some Islamic sect or group issuing a fatwa against Trump if he pulled such a stunt.
It is with the spectre of this possibility in mind that Mrs. Thespian are fitting out our dwelling so that we can Age in Place for as long as possible.
My father spent his last years in an assisted living center in what had devolved into a mostly red district; he’d been a card-carrying D for years. He took breakfast and lunch with the other residents but supper’d separately; it must have just been a lot. OTOH he was good at listening, trying to understand etc.
My bet, considering Trump’s narcissistic authoritarianism is that he sees the Papacy as yet another CEO position which he’s capable of assuming because he knows more about running a large organization than anyone else.
