A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Punchier Headlines, Please The involvement of any White House in the content of the Smithsonian Institution crosses a critical line of politicization, let alone this White House in this moment with its expressed intent of…
Sadly, this administration* bears little or no resemblance to what really makes America great. BTW, the name of the country is “United States,” not “America.” Now, the FedSoc courts are bowing to every wish of our would-be dictator. I mourn for our republic.
The Smithsonian and National Mall should face a major protest on July 4th, replete with large form imagery of slavery and racial abuses throughout our history, including the Civil Rights Era (firehoses, dogs, etc.). Fuck these people. Fuck them all sideways until they bleed from the ears.
“This initiative aims to ensure alignment with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions,” the letter says.
So, MAGA is neither “divisive or partisan?”
Like, it must be truth?
This is getting weird.
Children in Lithuania are to be taught how to build and operate drones as part of the small Baltic country’s efforts to build capacity to deal with any future threat from Russia.
In a joint initiative by the defence and education ministries, the government said on Tuesday it hoped to teach more than 22,000 people, including schoolchildren, drone skills as part of an attempt to “expand civil resistance training”.
The programme would be adapted to different age groups, with third- and fourth-grade students of between eight and 10 years old learning to build and pilot simple drones, the government said. Secondary school students will design and manufacture drone parts and learn how to build and fly advanced drones.
“By focusing on Americanism —the people, principles, and progress that define our nation—we can work together to renew the Smithsonian’s role as the world’s leading museum institution,” the White House letter concludes.
So, museology is now a subdiscipline of propaganda?
“This initiative aims to ensure alignment with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions,” the letter says.

The short version…
“Whites only”
Trump forces his brand of Trumpism on The Smithsonian.
Of course he will have his 5 deferments listed and all the women he screwed during Vietnam.
Trump Center for the Arts will reopen as a franchise expansion location for Kid Rock’s Nashville emporium.
Ted Nugent will be a regular along with the skitchiest of Country’s continuous loop tape of songs celebrating beer, trucks, guns and Nationalism.
Lee Greenwood will be an upgrade.
How low can he go? Oh, we have no idea how far he’ll drag things down.
The octagon cage fight event was announced by UFC boss Dana White, whose friendship with the president dates back to the early 2000s when Trump hosted some of the first ever UFC events at his business properties.
“It is definitely going to happen,” White told CBS Mornings.
White said he planned to meet with the president and his daughter Ivanka at the end of the month to finalise the plans. A White House official confirmed the event to the BBC.
And this is what it took to bring Ivanka back. First item on the agenda? Where to seat tens of thousands of spectators. South Lawn arena?
Is the world respecting us at levels never seen before, yet?
As Shakespeare might say of him:
A knave, a rascal, an eater of broken meats; a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy, worsted-stocking knave; a lily-livered, action-taking knave; a whoreson, glass-gazing, super-serviceable finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slave; one that wouldst be a bawd in way of good service; and art nothing but the composition of a knave, beggar, coward, pander, and the son and heir of a mongrel bitch; one whom I will beat into clamorous whining if thou deniest the least syllable of thy addition.
Well, that’s the thing, ain’t it? They somehow think making stuff inside the walls of a museum all nice and white and tidy will erase reality, but it’s in a largely Black city, and surrounded by a huge country that is, everywhere, a refutation of their idiotic “Americanism.”
You just can’t overcome a reality lived by 340 million people. (Okay, I know – 340m minus the cult.)
Dictators never, ever succeed at keeping the lid on the arts. Their attempts make them look like braying asses onstage at the Met.
“GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS,” Trump wrote.
Get your bingo cards ready folks and fill in the names -
a slate of honorees that included a “country music icon, an Englishman, a New York City Rock band, a dance Queen and a multi-billion dollar Actor.”
ETA: I see @garrybee has also linked to the renaming
“Americanism” my ass. This is indeed all about an -ism, but it ain’t Americanism.
Good morning! It’s a great, authoritarian, fascisty, two-fisted, bare-chested, manly, city-occupying kind of day!
Weird that he is wearing a black suit in this portrait, when he makes such a big deal about blue.
The only positive thing I can think of regarding the Smithsonian, is that archivists usually don’t destroy things when exhibits are changed, they just move them into long term storage. Like the ending scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark. What this moronic and racist administration does to the Smithsonian can be reversed when he’s gone.
