The hard reality is that that money doesn’t come from thin air. We as taxpayers are nearly always the source of any sort of govt. spending. The notion of tariffs paying for it ignores the fact that we pay the freaking tariffs. Bush’s $325 (am I remembering the number right?) refund at least had the fig leaf of Clinton’s hard-earned surplus. Of course, it was still a ridiculous move and marked a quick return to massive budget deficits. This nonsense is basically Trump saying, “Don’t let the Democrats come to power and show the world what a piece of shit I am! I’ll give you anything to stop it!” He sounds like a crackhead desperately trying to lie his way to his next fix. Why does anyone treat anything this man says as worthy of honest consideration?
