In his effort to whitewash his administration’s botched handling of the pandemic, President Donald Trump is now actively shrugging off the daily COVID-19 death toll in the U.S.
Nothing has changed, he just can’t be bothered by it. It is understandable that he doesn’t want to get involved because he has so many other things on his plate – like playing golf and tweeting. I would say that dealing with COVID would be improved if he resigned but Pence has already proven he will be worse than useless.
So Trump bitches that we have so many cases only because we have such a magnificent testing program, but then uses that number to minimize the number of deaths, in which we are doing terribly in comparison to the rest of the world.
Anyone else notice a logical problem here? He can’t both ask Swan to disregard the high number of cases as irrelevant and then use that number to make himself look good.
“They are dying, that’s true, and it is what it is,” the President said. “But that doesn’t mean we aren’t doing everything we can. It’s under control as much as you can control it.”
“Are you still going on about that pandemic thing? That’s old news. Bo-ring. Can’t we get back to talking about important things, like how awesome I am?”
I’m not sure that remark by Trump was the most damning part of the interview. From
what I have seen, his fumbling, embarrassing, almost hysterical attempt to use the charts was the worst part. As far as I could tell the charts were unlabeled. Trump’s way of “understanding” them—“See we’re the lowest which means we’re the best”—showed once more just how impossibly slow he is.
The reporter actually tried to pin him down, but the lies and backtracking cane so fast it was impossible. My favorite was when Trump said the famous “some people” said you could do too much testing. The reporter said who, Trump dances, the reporter again asked, Trump returns to “some people” and adds “the books,” and the reporter asked “which books” and Trump danced away again. It really was a masterclass in how Trump lies
You need to view our death count in proportion to the loaves of bread at Walmart on a Friday evening. We kick Malaysia’s ass and their stupid tuna on a Tuesday metric.
