If the US had followed the same protocols as Finland, the total number of deaths nationwide would have been about 20,000, not 160,000, the number of deaths we’ll hit today. The good news is that therapeutics and medical treatment strategies are improving so fewer deaths per persons hospitalized. What will not be fixed is the potential for long-term damage to survivors. The cement lung phenomenon, for example, could cause a lifetime impairment of lung capacity. We could be living with the consequences of this pandemic for decades.

I watched a clip with closed captioning and no sound, so, I’ll grant you that I may have missed some nuance here. It seems to me that he literally did not understand what the statistics mean. He was so focused on finding a way that he could “win” that he either ignored or didn’t understand the numbers.
His lack of empathy means that he can’t extrapolate “deaths” to “actual human beings who have families that love them” and he has no way to realize that “hospitalizations” means “terrified people and overworked health care workers”. “Cases” just means “I look bad”.
That interview is damning.

More to the point, he refuses to use any of the tools at his disposal to DO anything about it.
This has been his consistent (non) response over the past seven months.
This is an astounding Presidential dereliction of duty, with massive, ongoing consequences.
He needs to be impeached and removed. And if Pence doesn’t do any better, impeach and remove him too. Because I guarantee you, Nancy Pelosi won’t twiddle her thumbs, tweet, and go play golf during the worst crisis America has faced since the Cuban missile crisis.
