The answer comes from her fear; the point is that she’s scared.
IMNSHO, the best explanation of the lady you describe comes from Canadian scholar Bob Altemeyer’s magnum opus, “The Authoritarians," his groundbreaking, multidecade, definitive study that’s also very readable and very funny in places!
A mountain of empirical data on rightwing folks like her squarely points to fear. They see the world as scary, always on the edge of collapse into the “Law of the Jungle.”
And social researchers know this not by guessing, but because folks like her tell them, over and over again, in survey after survey, for decades on end. It’s what they say their parents taught them, and what they’ve believed since childhood.
The rightwinger’s raison d’être is fear, a second helping of fear, a fear chaser, a fear nightcap, and a midnight snack of fear. They’re always afraid. Every second of every day for their whole lives they live in piss-your-pants fear of “The Other”.
Pink, straight, cisgendered, rightwing Americans are particularly (though not exclusively) terrified by People of Color, LGBTs, Jews, Muslims, and Spanish speakers – but even if you’re not one of those, they’ll still hate you if you’re not just as frightened by “them” as they are.
We left for a ski trip to Italy on Inauguration Day 2017 and I joked that we were making good on our promise to leave the country if Trump became president. We came back, but next time we may not be joking.
I think I am gonna boycott cnn dot com. I poke to read an article and they say I am out of “free articles” but for somethingbless than a dollar a week I would have unlimited access. Now, why would I give unknown folk my email address? Just so they fill it up with unwanted bull shit?
That’s not a boycott. It’s a reasonable choice to not do business with a company that is asking a price that you are not willing to pay. I also will not be a customer of CNN.
I’m so terribly sorry if I sound pedantic. Not sorry enough not to leave the comment.
Actually, for the sake of conversation, how should CNN support their work financially?
And I wanted to demonstrate that I wasn’t afraid. You know, go up and ask her casually what she thinks and why. But I am afraid. I cannot count on my neighbors to stand by me.
Well, at least I hope that we do agree with the famous political philosopher who stated that "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government . Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.”
They have been doing it for years and America has watched. If TCF is elected CNN will be thrilled. The other day I read that one their staff came out and said their ratings would improve. Anyways, to my mind they are news-entertainment like Fox but not Fox.
The Post says Trump is “running an unorthodox campaign” and engaging in “norm-breaking behavior.” I guess that covers being a “fascist to the core” (unorthodox indeed) and “norm-breaking behavior” (it is in fact a norm for presidents not to sic the US military on their domestic political opponents).
