Trump Defends Raising Less Money Than Biden: I Don’t Like Big Donors Anyway!

Would it be too harsh to say that they deserve each other?

This guy can’t even get publicity in Connecticut (which he represented for a lot of years).

I’m surprised he’s backing the wrong horse… not.

The Editor’s blog made a pretty good distillation of the Trump campaign’s having seen hundreds of millions go missing. It concluded that big sums of ostensible Trump campaign funds were stolen by Parscale, and even bigger sums went into LLCs for the benefit of Trump’s family and hangers-on.

But I doubt if those alone account for the hundreds of millions. Note that Trump’s excuse in a Tweet was he had to spend money on “the China virus” to tell Americans what a great job he was doing. But he could do that for himself from the White House on all networks for free, as well as use sycophants in the administration to give his propaganda official imprimatur. And I am unaware of any blitz of Trump campaign aids saying what a great job he was doing on coronavirus.

I think a least a portion of the money was coronavirus-related, but not in the way described. I suspect it went into organizing and paying for logistics and loyalties for all those “spontaneous” anti-lockdown protests that erupted in spring. I wouldn’t be surprised if later, it shifted into organizing and supplying those right-wing militias that suddenly sprang up in the wake of the killing of George Floyd. Plus I wonder if under-the-table payments are keeping key police chiefs and police unions “on-side.” (all of this is of a piece with muzzling a DHS report about the danger of white supremacists).

“I haven’t been heavy on big donors because I don’t want to call them,” the President told Hannity. “When you called big donors, you sort of put yourself in a very compromising position. When somebody puts up a lot of money, you’re in a compromised position. Whether you say it, whether you don’t say it, it doesn’t matter.”

Uh huh.

I never imagined he would have a problem with compromising positions.

Has Joe done or said anything the last 24 hours that didn’t involve a criticism of Trump? You would never know on TPM. But they do have a crack team of reporters writing about every stupid thing Trump said to Sean Hannity last night.

It’s not the most outrageous lie he’s ever told, not the most bizarre or delusional, in fact any candidate might have said something similar to this, but when Donald Trump says he would prefer that rich people not give him large sums of money it may be simply the furthest from the truth he’s ever explored. So make a note on the calendar, folks. In Donald J. Trump’s long and stupid career of saying wildly untrue things, this is it, this is “Uh-huh” Day.

Yes, he really hates rich people.

Not that that’s a bad thing…in this particular instance.

There doesn’t need to be any dot-connecting, the connection is pretty obvious. Trump was consciously downplaying the virus’s lethality and virulence, and Boy Genius Kushner has been documented saying pretty much to let the virus run its course, because it hits blue demographics harder.

As far as I am concerned, they are both genocidal murderers. Sure, they didn’t pull any switch, they just gave orders – exactly like Hitler and Himmler.

"When Fox News host Sean Hannity asked if Trump running fewer ads than Biden in Florida was a “strategy” "

In the clip of that, it looked like Hannity was giving the lift and hand off for Trump. Trump didn’t take it. Instead, he went a different direction.

Who says he’s going to pay them?

Likeliest reason for his cash problems is they think he’s going to lose.

Big Money doesn’t like investing in losers.

My first reaction too.

He’s like a thwarted little kid, “wah! I didn’t want that toy anyways…”

“I don’t need lots of donations, because we’re not going to pay any of our bills anyway! And if companies demand payment, I’ll tweet that they are giving things to Biden and charging us extra and I’ll run them out of business. And if cities don’t provide us with arenas and security for events, I’ll have my people burn them down. And I’ll continue to pretend that I’m doing actual governing while using taxpayer dollars to support my campaign of lies. Like I said, I don’t need lots of donations.”
