Abortion rights ballot measures pass in 7 states, fail in 3 others
Voters in Arizona and Missouri approved ballot initiatives that will effectively protect abortion rights until fetal viability and undo existing abortion laws on the books. But voters in Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota rejected proposed amendments that would have done the same — becoming the first pro-abortion rights ballot measures to fail since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
Meanwhile, voters in Maryland, Montana, Nevada and New York (where abortion is already legal through fetal viability) and in Colorado (where there are no laws restricting abortion and no gestational limits for women seeking abortions), passed measures that will formally enshrine those existing rights. Organizers have said that the amendments are designed to prevent lawmakers from undoing existing protections in the future

The trend to greater support for Trump across most of the country than obtained in 2020 is a declaration of who almost 50% of Americans are. These are politically ignorant people, people living in a wildly non-reality bubble, people drawn to authoritarianism, people drawn to fascism. Fascism is burgeoning inexorably in the USA. It will almost certainly cascade catastrophically outside the US.

America elected a convicted criminal over a qualified black woman. This cements the country’s misogynism and sexism.

If you take Trump at his word, he is going to ruin the economy by deporting millions, and imposing across the board tarriffs. He is going to crush the national debt by giving giant tax breaks to his billionaire supporters. He is going to be a dictator on the first day jailing and murdering his opponents. The Congress will support him. The Supreme Court will do his bidding. The press is eager to curry favor. Apparently about 1/2 of the country is more than eager for the spectacle. So TPM what do Americans do?
