Trump Decides Now Is Not The Time To Make Republicans Rubber Stamp His DOGE Power Grab—Maybe Later

Originally published at: Trump Decides Now Is Not The Time To Make Republicans Rubber Stamp His DOGE Power Grab—Maybe Later - TPM – Talking Points Memo

First it was reported that the Trump White House was considering sending a rescissions package to Congress, a way of letting the legislature rubber stamp some of the spending cuts DOGE has already implemented. Then it was reported that Trump might delay that package, at least a few weeks, while House and Senate Republicans focus…

Yeah. Because God only knows we’ll have no public corruption or hunger and malnutrition in America under the Trump regime and Mike Johnson’s super-Christian legislative powerhouse. Nosiree.

Each and every instinct of DJT is immoral, self-serving, corrupt and contrary to the nation’s interests.

He has a plane. Yippee! Much high fiving! Business? Nah. Not right now. Lets take a ride. Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Frickn’ five year old.

This is going to end up an interesting battle. Little Stevie versus the family. The family versus the billionaire class. The family versus family. Who gets to control the estate and his will this round? I have to wonder when the orange infant is becoming so easily swayed by simple gifts, like 400 million dollar boondoggles.

Jeez if someone gave him a Big Mac, two scoops and a slice of chocolate cake, the infant would sell Melania to them in a heart beat. Drop a large order of fries in there and he will give them the key to all of our state secrets.

But Joe was old and losing it.

… … … …
How kind of him. Mebbe when he gets home from Qatar?

I just dropped by to look for kitty pics. Of course I could visit the kitty thread in the Hive I suppose…

So it has come to this…

I’m listening to David Frum on MSNBC and he is making sense ( :confounded:). He just called TFG one of the most corrupt people in human history. And stated that the media (we) have failed abysmally.

If only these old conservatives had seen the light a decade or two ago.

We used to have an orange cat named Morris, after the tv star. My mother used to push him around the yard in a baby buggy, in and out of the sun and shade. He never budged from the buggy, no matter what the provocation. It was like he was riding in state, taking it all in, calmly looking this way and that. His domain. I miss Morris. And all the animals past.

ETA: This is, regrettably, not Morris, but it looks just like him, including the posture, one of his favorites. I’ve never gotten around to digitizing most of my old photos, unfortunately. Maybe someday…

I had a kitty who looked just like this when I was a kid. He was my first kitty, and he taught me the healing powers of purr, and the empathy of gingers.

How is it the fault of hungry kids that their states have error rates? This is evil and enfuriating.

Gee, I wonder why.

I realize it’s sick behavior. But I can’t get enough of looking at these numbers – The survey found China’s net positive approval at 14%, while the US dropped from 22% net positive in 2024 to-5% in 2025, marking a historic reversal.

Global perceptions of US fall below China, survey says

  • A 2025 global survey revealed that China now enjoys more positive worldwide perceptions than the United States across 100 countries.
  • This shift occurred amid US political upheaval, trade conflicts initiated by the Trump administration, and China’s expanding diplomatic and economic initiatives.
  • China’s growing influence through the Belt and Road Initiative, technological advances, and strategic alliances improved its global image despite concerns about human rights and territorial claims.
  • The survey found China’s net positive approval at 14%, while the US dropped from 22% net positive in 2024 to-5% in 2025, marking a historic reversal.
  • This perceptual decline suggests diminished US global influence and indicates China’s rising stature as a key geopolitical actor despite ongoing risks.

So, lemme guess: JD will take over for Donald and declare that he’s, “Restoring normalcy to our autocracy.”

We had a cat named Spanky. It was an esrned moniker as he was boss to our dog and two other cats. He came to us as a streetwise combat veteran with scars to prove it. He chose our house for retirement and lived here for 20 years. He got really fat. Always first to the food bowl. He was fond of admiring his paunch on our old family computer…

19 pounds of cat on a 10 pound cat frame. Our dog and Spanky were tight buds often napping together on our bed. They are all missed. I’ve never liked the word “pet”. It connotes an object one owns. Cats and dogs and most other critters are self aware and deserving of some respect.

Just looking at the headline and before actually reading the article, the first take-away is:

TRUMP BACKS DOWN AGAIN!!
Weak Executive Again Forced to Walk Back, Budget This Time
How Long Can He Remain in Power?

Which is pretty much what any reputable rag should headline. Let’s see which ones do.

Also, vaguely related:
TRUMP BEGS FOR OLD, CAST-OFF AIRCRAFT
No Longer Good Enough for Arab Royals
Boxing Day Comes Early?

And what is an “error rate,” anyway? What kind of error. (Our reporter should have helped us out here.)

The numbers in this story suggest that somewhere between 7-10% of total federal spending is foreign identity thieves stealing benefits from the government. Smells like bullshit to me.

Do not the farm state GOP Congress People understand the cuts to SNAP are cuts to the purchases of farm state products? SNAP, among other things is a transfer of Federal dollars to state economies.

My first pet,I was 5 then and 69 now, was an orange tiger like Morris. I called him Jinx after a cartoon cat. He was king of the cats with the scars and kittens to prove it. He lived to a very ripe old age before passing while napping in the shade. I have a brand new orange tiger now who I call Valentine, I found him knotted inside a canvas bag inside a garbage dump here in Belize 2 days after valentine’s day this year.i think he will carry on the tradition of Morris & Jinx and all the other magnificent orange tigers out there…

Wait, I thought Trump was all powerful and can get anything he wants, and the courts and Congress can’t constrain him. At least according to some of the doom and gloom posts here. Maybe, just maybe, the situation is a little more complicated than that?
