He’s on a roll now. May as well pardon Stone and relieve Judge Jackson of her worries about how to handle the case moving forward.
Pardoning Stone would be an oopsie as I understand it, since his Fifth Amendment right goes away. Has to be a commutation. Don’t quote me. I do notice a tendency not to pardon people who could testify against him.
Maybe the third.
Why worry about asserting the 5th? Apparently if you know Trump you can just refuse to respond to a subpoena, bypassing any concerns about how you’d answers questions altogether. I assume it would be a Federal court issuing the subpoena. Let them cite you for contempt. Then Trump can pardon you for that too, should it come to that.
Your answer “large (fake) boobs” is incorrect.
The answer we were looking for was “pole dancing.” Pole dancing was the correct response.
Please make a note of it.
I hope Judge Jackson sentences him to 9 years.
Blago! See? His corruption is bipartisan!
Haha sorry Donald but no take-backsies just because Stone’s lawyers were incompetent. And good luck finding unbiased lawyers to serve on DC juries when it comes to anyone and anything related to Trump. Plus, it’s a long-standing legal principle that jurors are allowed to have opinions and that in most cases they’re not disqualifying in themselves. That’s why we have voir dire, and if Stone’s lawyers fucked that up, that’s on them and him, not the judge. It’s not her job to wipe your legal asses.
Oh, and please use a spell-checker next time.
The last time we had an insane tyrant over us (George III) we fought a revolution to rid ourselves of him. It may be time for an updated version of “The Declaration of Independence” to get people in gear.
Contempt isn’t necessarily pardonable, I believe, since it’s technically not a statutory crime but entirely within the judicial system. But there’s little case law on the matter. I’m guessing that eventually at least one of his pardons goes to SCOTUS for review. God help up if they allow self-pardons.
That is how we know it is really trump twiddling his thumbs.
Given that Barr has essentially claimed that a president is above the law, certainly in practice since it’s up to the AG to determine which if any crimes a president can be held accountable or even investigated for, but also in law, including his right to self-pardon, and that there’s a non-trivial chance that SCOTUS upholds all this, we may well be on the brink of having to literally ignore court rulings. But how, in a real-world sense, since they have all the means of enforcement, and any insurrection, however non-violent, is likely to be met with force? If Trump has the courts’ backing, he can literally do anything he wants and nothing short of forces outside the constitutional system can prevent it.
I’m guessing that it won’t come to that, and the courts will ultimately restrain him. But it’s definitely not out of the question. It really all hinges on Roberts, and the health of 2 elderly SCOTUS Dems.
His spelling is as impeckable as his logick.
It is certainly a very very scary scenario I was contemplating (I do not wanna go their if it can be avoided). I don’t like it but I find myself confronted with it. trump sees self preservation in office and he will keep a desth grip on it I believe.
Anyone being above the law is anathema to me and that reprehensible DoJ memo says he has legal immunity. I am not a lawyer but I read both memos, the old one from 1973 and the more recent as well. It is a couple hundred pages of bull shit utterly ignoring that we have a vice president.
I am not sure trump can be restrained short of hand cuffs and a frog march out of the building on 1/20/2021.
Any misspellings are due to a faulty tablet and not me.
Out doing errands a little while ago i saw a bumper sticker that read … …
PUTIN,
TRUMP,
2020.
Ah yes, the “both sides do it” figleaf for the signalling pardon.
Stone defense had, but didn’t choose to examine everyone that sat on stones jury, including this lead person that trump is trying to claim was/is bias…in his attempt to intimidate the judge…into considering a new trial…
hes doing this b/c hes ordered barr to intervene anyway and a new or mistrial trial would result in a lot better optics then barrs outright intervention say clearing stone of all charges…and it could and would also folks to question flynns and manaforts trials and sentences as well…
.
At least. I wouldn’t mind her adding more time just because he was has been such a jerk throughout the whole process.
SCOTUS, if pressed to rule on the matter, will give Trump what he wants. The evolution to the supremacy of the Executive will continue unimpeded.
What’s happening that Trump doesn’t want us to notice? Is he doing the old deflection-distraction trick again? He’s certainly been busy today, which is highly unusual. That’s why I think he’s hiding or deflecting from something else.
