We shot them on sight. My father hated squirrels with the extreme prejudice only a nut farmer could hold.

That is what I have been saying all along. Stop sending SSA and retired military checks during shutdowns, stop Medicare payments. There would be only the need to do it once.

Yup. Only thing that the fake shutdowns have accomplished is convincing low-information voters that government doesn’t do anything for them.

Precisely because the backstops have ensured that all the things government is doing don’t actually stop.

I can make arguments for the military staying on duty.

Leisure travel? Should be gone. Benefit checks? Gone.

Yeah Screw the 51st state BS…

But I will ask… As a Canadian, are you up for taking on an 11th Province of “New England”

We got Hockey, Maple Syrup, what else we need?

Sure, we’ll be belligerent on the French thing, but otherwise we’re alright

That would be a disaster to the country. I suppost the banksters and credit card companies could eke a few billion out of late and missed payments and foreclosures. I fail to see how this would keep the Congress critters from being re-elected.

Vermont has an annual Green Up Day in early May. Volunteers in every community pick up all the garbage along the roadsides. Many towns have competitions for the strangest finds and other categories of trash. Green Up Day started in the 1970’s.

By faking that Government “doesnt work” then government goes on working… this should demonstrate the opposite…

Fun fact, the first community recycling center was set up in NH, also early 70’s…

NH is every bit as Green as the Green Mountain State… And Vermont put out as much Granite as NH.

All about trying to be able to blame Biden for the debt ceiling being increased and then try to pawn off all debt increases during his MAGAt Depression on Biden.

I bet Jeffrey Beaumont won the year he found that thing in the tissue paper.

The problem is that too many people don’t associate SS and Medicare and National Parks and air traffic control as government. One of the things a lot of the European countries do is collect the taxes, then give them back, clearly labeled as government disbursements, for tuition, rent assistance, vacation subsidy, childcare, etc. Everybody knows what they are getting for their tax dollars. In the US, a lot of the assistance comes from tax refunds and credits, so people see their personal paycheck pay for a solar panel or low E window, or healthcare, or whatever and they might get a tax break at the end of the year, or not. There’s no real connection between the tax dollars and the benefit. Plus our tax code is unfair, benefitting some people but not others who are in very similar circumstances.

Always the bridesmaid, never the groom.

You’re just jealous.

I’m willing to bet in a couple years it’s going to be pretty well recognized that the expiration of the child tax credit is what did Biden and the Dems in this round. They were never going to stop inflation because it was the result of the pandemic and supply chain issues, not the fucking spending bills. The tax credit is what allowed people to keep going in a higher price environment. When the tax credit expired then grocery prices became primo in people’s minds and that is squarely on the shoulders of “centrists” Manchin and Sinema.

Just saying that the benefits you list would not come through would probably be enough of a wakeup call to get the Congress moving with a budget. The reality is it is an inconvenience for the unpaid workers who get paid after the budget comes through. If there is a shutdown, the general reaction is “So?” It’s not like the mails stops.
