Fascinating watching Elmo and Vivek melt down over the CR.
Mostly because it’s like they have no idea how the legislative process works, and are learning on the fly.
I wouldn’t hire them to run some DOGE operation to introduce efficiencies and cuts, for that stuff you bring in experts who know the stuff inside out.

I’m no expert on how the sausage is ground up when it comes to cobbling together and passing a bill but it makes me wonder, especially with a comment like this from a house member, that no matter how much talk there is on cutting spending, etc. if the structural realities of our government are simply too great to overcome … even with lobbying from the worlds richest man.
Congress works the way it does. One member gets their district pork and another gets theirs. It’s worked this way for a very long time. It’s hard to see how even a fascist president and his cronies end it.

I agree in general - that’s the reason they are after SS and Medicare/Medicaid. Apart from the “defense” budget which the MAGAts will never touch, those two (plus interest) are the only line items that actually make a difference - those 4 lines together are over 76% of the budget spend.
So it’s all play acting around the edges.
