Keep in mind that it has now been reported that Trump disclosed the existence of a top secret weapons system during their first conversation in DECEMBER 2019!!!
Woodward was sitting on a serious national security breech all this time too. Had he spilled those beans then, he’d never have gotten Trump on tape in February.
The attacks on Woodward drive me nuts. He got the goods people. And he did so because he has both the discipline and stomach for it.
I couldn’t last five minutes on the phone with Trump.

So, Woodward didn’t “blow the whistle”? If he had done so at the time, Trump would have just called him “Fake News!” and moved on, since he was saying it was all a “Democrat Hoax” around that time anyway, IIRC.
So, no it isn’t on Woodward to say something, and you can’t redirect or shame him for not saying anything. The responsibility for all of it lies squarely with Trump.
Look at the mob here looking to send Woodward out of town on a rail. Give your self-righteous heads a shake people.
Trump made his frank comments in February, well before things had started to explode. By the time things started to heavy, would it have really mattered if Woodward released his tapes? I’ll give you a hint: it would’ve mattered for a nanosecond until the channel got changed.
As for proof, I cite the behaviour and comments of all TPMers here who have chosen to loose sight of the fact that this is about Trump, not Woodward. You are all so eager to find villainy and poor character that you cannot even stick to the obvious target of your contempt.
You are all just as bad as Trump “my generals are all pussies because they can’t close trade deals.” Well Donnie, Generals aren’t supposed to do that, it’s not their job.
Woodward is an asshole because he didn’t show us how two-faced Trump was in February? March? April? When exactly was Woodward supposed to jump in and supposedly save thousands of lives, hum?
JFHC! Stop it! Stop your smug superiority and arrogant finger pointing towards everyone who fails to meet your lofty behavioural expectations. Woodward is doing his job the best way he knows how and, frankly, he does it well IMO.
If half of the people in the administration, or a quarter of the Republican Party had Woodward’s competence, then maybe tens of thousands could’ve been saved. You are all blowing smoke up your ass if you think Woodward could’ve saved lives by speaking earlier.
And yet, he may very well save countless lives by revealing everything now. For if you and everyone else digest his work properly, he will have buried the Trump presidency and freed us from 4 more years of racing to the bottom.
Perhaps that was Trump’s secret conscience briefly crying to be heard… Ah, but once again quickly relegated to the dusty basement of Trump’s tiny brain.
I’ve been thinking about this latest inane accusation and…Woodward would have gotten this ‘info’ from POTUS. Is Donnie trying to say HE couldn’t scare people but Woodward SHOULD have?
Most of us knew, or at least pretty well surmised, everything that Woodward is now saying about Trump. Not the precise details. But 90+% of the gist. Nothing Woodward would have said any earlier would have changed a single thing for any one of us.
Moreover, we have each been inundating virtually everyone we know who would listen to us (and even some who wouldn’t) with virtually the same information over the same period of time. And where did that get any of us?
This is the right time. The right way. Anything else is second-guessing that which cannot be second-guessed.
Remember too how we felt after watching the fiasco of a trial held in the Senate - Woodward had good reason to believe new revelations wouldn’t help at the time.
And trump’s relief about getting away with his crimes after impeachment might be why he was so willing to talk to Woodward at the time. After all, he “won” and it was time to do a victory lap.
