Trump, Biden Condemn Shooting Of Two LA Sheriff’s Deputies In Patrol Car | Talking Points Memo

Exactly my point. They sent that out to push a certain narrative, which is not their business to be doing.

I’m disappointed that more “good” cops aren’t speaking out about how their colleagues’ actions are making their own work way more dangerous.

Well that’s a given. But aside from condemning the shootings, which he has already done, any further comment, at least until the man is caught is counter productive for Biden who has no direct or indirect authority here. Anything further could be seen as interfering.

Distortion is greatest at the periphery but the shooter is pretty well centered so it’s probably close.

I agree with you. The shooter looks like he has very short legs and especially when he’s running away. Looks like a child.

The car looks freakishly short lengthwise, is another thing. I think this was cropped out of the frame and maybe further manipulated,

I find it odd that the reporter was arrested.

Why does he look like he’s wearing a skirt and black tights? Black board shorts and tights makes no sense.

That looks like they messed up the aspect ratio and squashed it horizontally.

I dunno, looks like normal “telephoto compression” which happens even with a fisheye lens when you crop a very small area in the center of the frame. This has to be tightly cropped, because there are none of the usual circular fisheye distortion effects (if it is a fisheye as reported).

Drag and drop the image on it and have fun.

Oh yeah, I’m aware of software distortion correction (used to do this photo stuff as a career), so it could have been corrected. I’m assuming it’s highly cropped more from the compressed look. Well that and the blur, unless it’s a really crappy camera…

Well, I don’t even know how many camera lenses I own, I think it’s north of 30 at least, and this distortion doesn’t make sense to me, so I’m just going to stop thinking about it.

It’s weird. It does look like a little person as well as a child.

Yeah, we could all be very wrong. :upside_down_face: I’ll admit I know zip about surveillance cameras and lenses other than general principles, just going by what we’ve been shown in that one image.

You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group.

Half full versus half empty from former SF Mayor Brown and former CA State Assembly speaker and all around astute politico. The highlights in brief:

The virus

Trump campaign has failed in its attempts to make law and order the central issue of the election

Older voters are abandoning Trump in large numbers

questions about Biden’s age, health and intellectual skill appear to be falling by the wayside. The only place you hear about “Sleepy Joe” these days is on Fox News.

The economy. Wall Street is doing great, but Main Street is hurting.

And saving the best for last

voters want Barack Obama back. That really helps Biden, because he’s the closest thing we can get to Obama in this election.

Shooting cops is not the antidote to police brutality. It is an invitation to a police state, especially when the president is already advocating for a police state with calls for “retribution”. Gunning down cops just because they are cops is a prelude to lawlessness on both sides and will lead to more police brutality, not less.

This advice should also be dispensed to the police.

Yeah. Since they’ve really shot a lot more people for no good reason and caused a lot of the violence at protests.

The sheriff, Villanueva, is really bad news, he has been fighting hard to avoid any oversight of the department and doing some really shady things. I don’t know if that plays into any of this, until they find the shooter or determine a motive based on the officer’s activities I’ll hold judgement. Violence shouldn’t be the answer, but if you’re a black person being harassed by cops without any recourse it may seem like the only option.

What I do know is that this is going to make things far worse…the officers will roll over everyone trying to find the shooter, rules be dammed, and that’s going to exacerbate both the protest issues and the oversight issues. It couldn’t have come at a worse time, really.
