No, the case against TMF as been dismissed. The paper-thin excuse of prejudicing Nauta and the other minion can be solved by redaction.
Americans will be so distracted by avoiding war with Canada most won’t notice when Social Security is privatized.
New Mexico uses a variant on this process. When a vacancy occurs:
- A Judicial commission recommends qualified persons to the governor.
- The governor appoints one of the recommended candidates.
- The state Senate must confirm the nominee.
- At the next general election the judge must stand in a quasi-partisan election (meaning no affiliations on the ballot, but everyone with a body temperature above freezing knows the affiliation of all candidates). The winner of that election must face periodic retention elections.
The bottom line is that no governor is going to appoint someone who doesn’t have the strong support of the governor’s party (locally or for appellate courts, statewide). Losing a judgeship at the first election phase is a Bad Thing. Governor Susanna Martinez succeeded in losing two judgeships in Dona Ana County that way–she was not particularly well-liked at her one-time home. (I believe Susanna is now living in Albuquerque now, but I can’t confirm that.)
Wonkette can bring it.
In other words, he’s declared open season on transgender issues. That’s sure to end well.
Carter was a real president as was Obama and Biden. Not this current clown
When I worked in LA Superior Court, it was not unusual for a case to appear that was filed in Superior Court that should have been filed in a Federal Court. The judge had no problem sending it on its way to where it belonged. Attorneys did not argue that she was wrong. But then the judge I worked for was brilliant and hard-working and knew what she was doing. And she was respected.
Awful. Hang in there.
I’m sorry to hear you so pessimistic but I understand it. When trump was elected the first time my mom - a life long Democrat who raised 6 strong Democratic daughters - who was in her mid 80’s at the time said ‘it’s not my problem I won’t live thru his term - I’m sorry you will have to.’ So when she broke her hip and then fell out of the bed at the rehab place and broke it again and then ended up dying a few months later I blamed trump for her losing her will to live. So I was happy when not one but two of my neighbors that are 80+ told me separately ‘I’m 8x years old and I need to live another 4 years to see him out of office’.
As for the NC judge race. The question is if they throw out those 60,000 ballots it SHOULD throw them out for ALL the races on those 60,000 ballots. Not sure if the courts want to open that bag of worms. Also from what I have read the issues the loosing candidate is raising have all been raised and denied in the past. Of course I know that the new ‘republican’ system doesn’t stand on precedent but my guess is that this is all show.
I’m still pretty much of the mind - a slight majority voted for a convicted felon knowing (or SHOULD know) what he did to try and overturn democracy last time, they think hey those last 4 years were fine nothing bad happened like you warned us - well I’m ok with some bad things happening this time. Because someone like Biden will be elected in 2028 and have to clean up the bad things that trump did - just like Biden did. And maybe this time they will remember how bad trump was for the country. If they don’t the historians will.
I don’t exactly enjoy seeing his face every day, but the TPM focus is on corruption and abuse of power. It’s what they do, it’s not a general news site. So unless there is some new corruption scandal related to the Carter funeral you’ll have to look elsewhere for that coverage.
Most Americans couldn’t tell you which century, let alone the decade, that any significant event occurred if it wasn’t in their lifetime. I’ve heard people guess he Civil War was in the early 1900s, and WWII was in the 1950s. Earlier than Nixon or Kennedy most would be hard pressed to cite the correct decade any 5 random Presidents served.
People are idiots. They know where to buy beer and cigarettes. The routes to work, to Walmart and to McDonald’s. And where to find the TV remote. Period. That’s it.
“U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon continued her series of extraordinary interventions in the Mar-a-Lago case, purporting to block the public release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report.”
Pardon my redundancy if somebody already noted the glaringly obvious (because I’m too lazy to read 110 posts) but can’t President Biden just release the full report by lunchtime, and enjoy some of that sweet, sweet Presidential Immunity™ that SCOTUS just rammed up the Constitution’s backside?
Yeah, you’re forgetting the secret codicil in the opinion that says, “Immunity applies only to members of the Republican Party who have appointed at least three (3) Supreme Court Justices.”
Yeah we also have your #1, #2. I just really like knowing that folks who make their living running campaigns aren’t making buck on judgeship campaigns.
Also since you live in NM you might know if this big yellow/orange ball that popped up in the sky to the south of me is something I should be worried about? I mean I haven’t seen anything like it since the beginning of Dec. And is it because of this strange yellow/orange ball the reason why the sky is blue instead of gray?
Love this post.
You’re kidding, right? Do you read Wonkette or are you too uptight? And you do understand that lesbian and transgender are not the same thing?
Sadly, my status as a citizen/resident of La Tierra Encantada has passed. I now live and vote in the frozen Republican hellscape that is Ohio. I would return to New Mexico in a heartbeat, but for the fact that that would require a divorce.
The things we do for love…
I have heard a rumor of a thing called “The Sun” or “Sol”, a big-ass thermonuclear reactor about 8 light-minutes away. I haven’t seen much direct evidence of its existence lately, however.
