Trump Begins Compiling Administration, As MAGA Loyalists Line Up For Jobs

The presidential election was called fairly quickly this year, launching President-elect Donald Trump’s team into transition mode within hours of the polls closing. Staffers are reportedly trying to iron out the people and policies that will shape Trump’s second White House term. That includes quickly starting the process to vet candidates for posts in his…

Cat pic for everyone’s blood pressure. Our son’s cat, Meowaslot, tries out a new seat cushion. (Black cats shed on light colored furniture; white cats on dark. It’s a law, apparently.)

Here we go again. The GOP will take a wrecking ball to everything, and maybe a future Dem administration can rebuild.

In 2017 Trump inherited the Obama economy, which took many years to create after George W. Bush cratered it. Trump left office with the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover.

President Biden had to contend with Republican sabotage, but he somehow got us out of the pandemic. Our death rate was higher than the rest of the world but the upside was the economy came back faster.

Now the wrecking crew is set to return.

Biden should provide the trump transition the same courtesy trump provided them four years ago.

Biden made the required speech today. I assume he is expecting the the incoming administration will try to indict him on X (maybe border stuff?), so no f’s let, eh.

I would really like to see him go out with a bang.

Speeches from the Rose Garden about anti-fascism
Send those WW2 info sheets on fascism to every house in America
Give every new baby a savings bond with details on how it will be worthless if the GOP defauts on the debt
Make Harris the 47th President on January 7th with Brown-Jackson swearing her in.

Do not go quietly in to the night, Joe! 9and Kamala)

Of course, there was structural stuff afoot too: global despising of incumbents, persistent grouchiness about certain parts of the economy.

Also agree the media environment the billionaires have built will be hard to compete with and clearly we must although it may not be possible to do so quickly

And I would dearly like to know why more than 10MM Biden voters did not show up for Harris; judging by the downballot races, many of them didn’t show up for anyone.

Very interesting FT graph. Notice that pre-Reagan, up vs down was split evenly. Post-Reagan down increasingly prevails, with brief upward spikes after 9/11 and during the 2008 fiscal crisis.

Reagan’s “government is the problem” philosophy was not unique to the US.

Re. Ukraine negotiations, I can see Trump and Putin running a good guy/bad guy tandem on Ukraine, where Trump’s plan makes them lose and Putin’s makes them disappear.

I think Ukraine should accept a deal that includes them never joining NATO. Then when a sane administration is in place, they should join and dare Putin to reinvade. I mean, it’s what Putin would do with an agreement he didn’t like.

In any case, we played stupid games with our democracy and Ukraine lost bigly.

Hopefully Europe will fill some our hole in Ukraine aid. They are already a bigger supplier and they have much more to fear from the bear.

“What’s still good is that Trump is speaking about his desire to curtail military aid to Ukraine. In spite of Europe likely being able to partially compensate for this, this desire, if it becomes a decision, will bring peace closer.”

Yes, it will bring Putin closer to keeping a piece of the Ukraine. Disgusting.

The situation regarding Ukraine is going to make me too depressed. We failed them when they needed us and we kept putting too many limits on them using their weapons.

Putin got what he wanted with Trump and it’s insufferable that millions of people will be at the whims of Trump wanting to impress Putin. The only way out is if our European NATO allies fill the gap, but I fear it’s too massive of a gap.

Kate Riga is right, the Democrats can’t compete as currently configured. She has mostly media messaging in mind, but I think this critique applies to the whole apparatus.

Poland has a say, because a Russian victory in Ukraine puts them in the cross hairs.

I completely agree. Our media landscape is so heavily tilted against Dems and, well, objective truth.
