Trump Asked PA GOP State Leader Twice To Overturn Biden’s Win, Marking 3rd State In Pressure Campaign

President Donald Trump called Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler (R) twice this week to inquire whether GOP state lawmakers could discard the will of the voters and steal President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the swing state.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1347964

Cutler’s spokesperson, Michael Straub, confirmed the two calls in an interview with the Washington Post.

Obvious translation: Cutler is tired of being pestered and wants the calls to stop.

Come on TPM, label this correctly. It’s not “Trump Asked PA GOP to Overturn” it is “Donald Trump again violated his oath of office to the US Constitution in an attempt to subvert a US Election, commits another felony.”

If Trump would have put as much energy into Covid mitigation as he has in trying to steal the election we probably would have much less death.

That’s not a headline; it’s the entire lede. How about “Trump Election Subversion Effort Moves to PA”?

The President did not “pressure” the House speaker, according to Straub, and the conversations were “amicable.”

“I mean, I like you and your family. I really do. It’d be such a shame if something bad happened to them over the Christmas holiday. I mean that.”

Trump has no real bargaining power. Activating his base just doesn’t pose the same level of threat as withholding arms during an ongoing military conflict.

It’s deeply disturbing that, as far as we’ve seen, absolutely nothing can be done about this. Hey, if Trump borrowed an AK from one of his supporters and cut loose in Times Square, would everybody just shake their heads and mutter about our “norms”?? I can see the NYT headline “Mercurial President Visits Times Square”.

(sigh)

Trump commits a felony almost daily. Meanwhile, this news gets reported as though committing felonies is a perfectly normal thing. I do not care from where the prosecutorial muscle comes. This fucker must be investigated and prosecuted.

He is still working behind our backs trying to allow only Repubs running in our next election.

“The President said, ‘I’m hearing about all these issues in Philadelphia, and these issues with your law.

Well, he’s got the circular logic part down pat, considering he himself is the source for all the issues he’s “hearing about” in Philadelphia.

This should be a state crime in PA. So add them to the list after NY, DC, etc.

Wasn’t it Barr who said with a straight face that yeah you couldn’t do anything about that?

A few weeks back, I was of the mind that prosecutions should be left to the state, but I’ve since changed my mind. This cannot stand. This is a coup, an attempt to overthrow the duly elected U.S. Government. My father and grandfather did not fight in whole ass wars only to have this mother fucker undo it all because he’s askeered of going to prison. He should have thought about that before he ran for president. He should have thought about that before he decided to use our most sacred institutions to launch a TV network. He needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and whatever arrangements need to be made, no matter the cost, he needs to go to prison.

Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses
You’ve been out ridin’ fences for so long now

And the dumbass would’ve won the election outright. That’s the real irony of it all. He could have easily gotten an aid package similar to Canada’s, let the experts control the process, shutdown the country, issued a mask mandate, and we’d be back to some semblance of normal like New Zealand and Australia. But he just couldn’t do it.

yeah, that’s definitely better - thanks!

Well, it’s the NYT … what can I say? I take no credit.

He’s working on an incompetence defense:

This is unreal. Trump abruptly walked out of Dan Gable’s Medal of Freedom ceremony today, leaving Gable shrugging and at a complete loss about what he was supposed to do. pic.twitter.com/mOzlLn8poC
