Trump Appointee Resigns Over Executive Order Stripping Civil Servants Protections | Talking Points Memo

The amazing thing is that, for the Cult, this kind of tyranny is something worth voting for.

If any Republican (functionary, politician, writer, voter) has–at any time in the future–any inclination to use any of the metaphors associated with Representative Government, the Constitution, Patriotism, Shared Allegiance to an Ideal as Opposed to a Person, etc, the reaction should be swift and predictable from the rest of us.

He’s not undoing them, per se. What he is doing is reclassifying an unknown chunk of employees (expected to be significant, but we don’t have any final numbers yet) from the protected positions to ones that don’t have the same protections.

There have long been exempt employees from the Congressional protections, Statute allows for the Executive Branch to choose which categories, like national security positions, are exempt from the protections.

Wonder who came up with this, cause it sure wasn’t Trump.

Trump’s blatantly illegal executive order in this regard should be immediately nullified by SCOTUS. Despite Trump’s infantile desires he is neither king nor president, nor the American version of Vladimir Putin nor Kim Jong-Un.

Struck because this is externally focused, doesn’t talk anything whether he’s internally engaging with OMB. I thought it was from the top line, reading more it’s not that, my bad.

I hope this is the last vindictive gasp of the Old White Men faction. But there is still a younger set of Boogaloos and Proud Boys to deal with.

Why would Fat Nixon wait until after the election if he intends to boot these people? He could just do it now.

Right. His lawyers will convince him that being invisible is in his best interests and it is.

Basically, Trump is demanding a loyalty oath from civil servants. This is not only unprecedented but it’s also got to be illegal.

What bullshit. It will just slide by because f***ing Dump is able to get away with anything.

But what else is new.

Republicans love to scare the hell out of people by crying about the alleged imminent perils of “socialism,” but embrace actual fascism when it is happening right in front of their eyes.

Improving voting access with clear minimum standards for Federal elections should be part of the Voting Rights Act - need to see if it’s already in the House-passed legislation.

On that note, I hope the House (and Senate) D staffs are looking at the various House bills passed since 2018 and pressure testing/legal proofing this bills while they’ve had time. Let’s make sure we don’t wind up giving the GOP little errors they can glom onto to get a ridiculous lower court decision served up to SCOTUS, as with this latest ACA case.

Maybe you need to, like myself, been a federal employee to understand just how dangerous Trump’s order is and how important Civil Service protections are for federal employees to perform their work impartially and competently.

That is without Civil Service protection, all federal employees are merely temporary workers who can and, if the past is any prologue, will be fired at the change of any administration. In American history this was called “The Spoil System” where to the victor goes the spoils.

The “Spoil System” meant that knowing it was just a temporary job and how you performed had no bearing on your retention as it was all politics, federal workers looked to taking care of themselves without regard to their duties because how they did their duties made no difference to their pay or other reward.

It would turn the clock back on American governance 150 years and move America backwards toward a third world banana republic.

Or he will start being a regular on Fox Snooze. Either outcome is the mark of a loser.

McCabe, former deputy director of the FBI, is not in the administration anymore and is one of Fat Ass’s harshest critics. He was the one Trump wanted to crucify but the Barr DOJ failed in their attempt.

Because he’s afraid he might shoot himself in the foot. Again.
