An attempt to avoid prosecution by NYS once he is out of office?

That’s what I was thinking (not that it will work). Or to make it more difficult for stiffed contractors to sue him (not that that would work either). Or maybe the plan is to declare Mar-a-Lago as a homestead to shield it from bankruptcy…

No doubt there are improvements that must be made to the president’s primary residence for security reasons… they are complete in Trump Tower, so no he moves on to Mara Largo. Hopefully is gone before he can change residency to Bedminster NJ

New York City and state have been more than kind to Trump since the 70’s bestowing him with numerous tax advantages.
What did he ever do in return? Heck he once threatened the New York City economic development commissioner because he didn’t get enough.

Damn, thought you’d be considering Russia. Doubt if you’ll get away from the law in Mar la Gogo, but you can hide out there at least until the next hurricane season.

Trump just wants to feel beautiful and popular every time he looks into the mirror… and the mirror in Mar-a-lago in his new “hometown” is a trumpian loyalist!

The only way Trump will spend any significant amount of time in Florida post presidency is if he goes to federal prison there.

As exemplified by former MLB commissioner Bowie Kuhn in the 80’s. Also George Steinbrenner after he was pardoned by Reagan had his voting rights immediately restored in Florida. No Jimmy Crow for him.

Sorry Trumpster BUT it won’t stop SDNY from investigating crimes committed while he was a resident.

Tax dodge most likely. As @paulw noted, becoming Florida Man ain’t gonna help with Johnny Law.

Lots of people move to Florida only to die in obscurity here.

He should try New Mexico. They’ll never get to him on the other side of that wall!

Lots of older Americans move from higher-tax northern states to lower-tax southern ones when they retire.

Is he going to announce his retirement, too? [pleez pleez pleez]

Seriously? He pays NY for its loyalty?

Quid. Pro. Quo.

If that’s what happens to him, he should consider himself fortunate.

Keep in mind that in Florida your primary residence can’t be confiscated in bankruptcy proceedings (see OJ for an example). Sounds like some prudent post-presidency financial planning.

Your OneWordAnswer™: Maybe.

Interesting after hearing that they’re trying to sell the lease in D.C. that this also pops up. Maybe he’s cleaning house and getting ready to go…
