I saw a piece on CNN this morning talking about our aging society. Our society is going to have to reevaluate the impact of our aging society on a whole host of issues including work, healthcare and wealth creation, as more and more of us age into our nineties.

Just for the record, Trump was making the same projection (that Biden would be using “performance enhancing drugs”) before the first debate in 2020 and insisting that he be tested for them prior to the debate. He also wanted authorities to check Biden’s ears to be sure he didn’t have an audio receiver hidden there. I think the Debate Commission shut him down on both requests.

Point being: we have been down this road before.

Trump, however, is not known to have a debate surrogate – or been in any debate practice. Instead, he has been out on the campaign trail. In Philadelphia on Saturday, he continued his rhetoric on immigration, at one point saying he would suggest to Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, that the organization pit a league of fighters who are immigrants against the “regular” league fighters with the champion of each then squaring off.
[Yeah, that’ll be a big hit for sure. The man’s the impresario from the 9th circle.

That left the talkshows to mull the impending clash with campaign surrogates talking up – or talking down – mounting expectations for a decisive exchange. However, there are also concerns that without a live TV audience to provide voter interaction, it could also fall flat. [If we’re lucky; not one of my concerns]

It’s projection as usual. Even if Trump hasn’t cheated with drugs or an earpiece in past debates, he would do it if he could get away with it. So naturally he assumes Biden will be cheating.

Who needs to practice, when the plan is to pull out at the last possible minute with an excuse that blames Team Biden.

Besides, he said he plans to lose on purpose to keep Biden in the race because he’s easy to beat.

And then, of course, there’s that list upthread recounting everything he’s better at and knows more about than anyone else. Practice would be a waste of time.

If he shows up, I’m betting more and more than the mic muting becomes a meltdown storming off the stage type issue. From experience, one of the things you really need to practice is how to wind up when your time is up. Of course, 50-50 whether CNN goes through with the muting as promised (odds might be better with the secret service there).
