Trump Admin To Strip Protections For LGBTQ Workers

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it was making changes to an Obama-era executive order that could allow religious federal contractors to discriminate against LGBTQ workers.

I had a coworker who sat next to me and insisted on talking politics. When he made noise about LGBTQ bathroom protections, I pointed out that it’s a battle he and his have already lost, due to corporations the world over supporting inclusiveness.

So why whine about something you’ve already lost? He didn’t have a good reply, of course.

According to the OFCCP, the new rule would “clarify that religious organizations may make employment decisions consistent with their sincerely held [bigotry] without fear of sanction by the federal government.”

The outrage is the end deliverable; he doesn’t give a crap about actually hurting gay people or not. That doesn’t mean those absurd Log Cabin Republicans shouldn’t be mocked at every turn, though.

Using the First Amendment to make racial, sexual and other discrimination 100% legal has been a long standing and long attempted goal for white supremacists and the Confederacy. They’re finally getting to see it become reality.

The end point of this is to allow any kind of discrimination…remember that southerners pointed to religion as the reason segregation was right and should continue. It’s a perversion of the freedom of religion, that’s supposed to protect your ability to worship how you want, not allow you to impose your beliefs on others or hurt them because your beliefs say it’s fine. We really need a law, not regulation, to enshrine this ideal.

If you want to hamstring your own business by driving away educated and well-off potential employees, I guess that’s a decision you could make, y’know? But everybody who’s big enough to study the problem has decided that inclusiveness is just good business.

I expect that it will at least be litigated through to 2021, when it can be withdrawn if we get an actual President instead of a tool.
This is totally toward the base, who feel that anyone else being treated fairly is a clear loss to them.
