Top VP Contender Rep. Karen Bass Denounces Past Cuba Comments | Talking Points Memo

People seem to be afraid Harris’ record as DA and AG are going to be examined very closely and she’ll look the worse for it. The same could be said for most of the potential candidates, including Demings as former police chief in Orlando who wasn’t as aggressive as she could have been in curbing unnecessary police use of force. Rice herself brings a complicated history related to Benghazi. If someone’s free of vulnerabilities I’d like to know who it is.

All the chatter about Bass and Rice is a distraction.

We aren’t going to be surprised when he picks Harris, but seems they are setting us up to be the next best thing, relieved.

I could write five GOP attack ads against Jesus Christ as VP candidate in, say, eleven minutes.

Jesus said “You have the poor with you always.”

In Our Suburbs? No Way!

Jesus. Wrong for the Suburbs. Wrong for America.

Rice does not come off as a Glad Handler.

Once, when I was running an Outreach Program, I hired a straight-ahead guy who was a hit with the clients I was serving…all while having zero of the so-called “outreach” attributes.

Her comments in praise of Scientology are disqualifying. Full stop.

The senator looks the part, and that’s a plus, like it or not in our current PC world.

One-two-three-go! He’s a self-admitted socialist. He doesn’t really understand America (Semitic). He’s too reckless in these dangerous times. He’s a pacifist who doesn’t understand how dangerous the world is. And he’s never been married just saying.

She’s the total package. My only problem with a Harris pick is that she isn’t the top of the ticket.

Fair point. I follow Ben Crump on Twitter, however, and found this in my list yesterday. I think this is good news for Harris on that issue, and a compelling counter-argument henceforth:

Here’s what happens if and when Harris leave her CA senate seat to join Joe. Adam Schiff immediately makes plans to run for it, will be elected in a walk, and we’ll be happy campers

If she’d asked for a harsh sentence for Willie Horton they’d attack her for it and ask if, as a black person, you should really support such a throw-away-the-key prosecutor, if that’s a right fit for the AA community. There is no ocean floor to their cynicism.

Crump’s a stand up guy, doing work on behalf of all the families whose members have been killed by rogue cops and others. But I have no problem with Harris. I voted for her for Senator (where she defeated another Democratic woman because, haha, no repub candidate qualified) and I followed her career as DA her and AG. She was effective and an advocate for justice.

We need a Harriet-like person versed in the communication tropes of the 21st Century…

Is that supposed to be a Harris? Just so you’re not thinking of a Karen

There was a major dustup about not seeking the death penalty for a gang member who killed a cop, the law and order cohort went after her on that, she sought and he received a life sentence, but her philosophy is to not seek the death penalty.

“We are talking about a system that creates a final punishment without any requirement that there be DNA to prove it,” Harris said. “It is a system where it has been fundamentally proven to be applied to African American and Latino men and poor men disproportionately for the same kind of crime.”
