My understanding is KY has a veto-proof GQP supermajority in both chambers.

Missouri voter and Democrat donor here. Unfortunately, I can not see a Democrat winning a Senate seat in Missouri any time soon. The state has moved pretty much into the red. Republicans have admitted they really don’t care about the big metros (Kansas City and St. Louis) because the rural parts of the state give them an almost 200,000 vote advantage. This thinking has been shown by our Republican governor sending bunches of vaccine to the rural areas where doses are having to be thrown away while the metros wait for sufficient doses. After a fiasco in the past week and a half where the governor sent 2,000 doses to a rural town of 69 people in southern Missouri (150 doses wasted and 1500 doses returned), the outrage has been enough to finally get this changed. But that is what has to happen here now to get Republicans to acknowledge the economic drivers of the state because that is where the Democrats are.

A bad Blunt - “No, we are not agreeing to any judicial nominees. Ever.”
A good Blunt - the proper mix of Sativa, Indica, a dab of hash oil and a nearby ashtray.

Manchin: “I think we could make the filibuster more painful for the minority”.

R Senators: “I’m going to spend more time with my family”.

I had been wondering why Blunt had sounded reasonable to me over the past 2 months. Now we know. He’s quitting.

I’m starting to wonder if the rumors about McConnell seeking retirement may have a shred of truth to them. The 2022 Senate races are shaping up to be pretty decent for the Ds with open GOP held seats in NC, PA, OH, MO, and possibly WI.

Nope. They had their fun… The party is in flames. They don’t want to stick around to either get caught by the blowblack or take accountability for their actions.

Easier to retire and grift off of Lobbying/Think Tank appointments.

Meh, some worse candidate will emerge. The seat will stay red.

In fact, I expect Hawley to run for it and win.

I prefer the other Roy Bl(o)unt.

Well then, they have to pass legislation to take the power of appointing Senators out of the hands of the governor. But that’s a double edged sword that can come back to haunt them.

And raises the question, why did he bother to run if less than 2 months into a 6 year term, he is already looking for a way out?

Since they are going to elect another world-class @$$hole, might as well skip the election and give two votes to Hawley

Under SB 241, voters would need to be 65 years old or older, absent from their precinct, observing a religious holiday, be required to provide constant care for someone with a physical disability, or required to work “for the protection of the health, life, or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open,” or be an overseas or military voter to qualify for an absentee ballot. The bill aims to undo a 2005 Republican-backed law allowing no-excuse absentee voting.

That’s the kicker right there. And to really drive the point home they’ll change the hours polling places are open. Where does poll worker fit in?

Thanks for the report.

The Governor’s “handling” of vaccine distribution is truly an outrage.

Hang in there.

Five plums are now ripening on the tree of Liberty. Unfortunately Missouri is an unlikely flip for Democrats, I’m told there no Dems with good statewide visibility. They should bring in the most visible sports figure that hails from the state.

I certainly hope that T**** weighs in on this and supports a far reich winger bigly.

So now Josh Hawley will be the SENIOR Senator from Missouri??? Oh good God.

On a serious note, I saw some writing about McConnell arranging for his replacement to be a Republican (should he leave office prematurely) even though the Guv is a Democrat.

Not to depress you, but here in NC the super majority legislature created a law/legislation(?) whereas if Sen Burr exits early our “D” governor has to pick a replacement from a list of three Republican candidates to fill Burr’s remaining term. I thought it was BS but apparently not. And your 1st thought, like mine, will be WTF! Six states have this law. Good news is, KY isn’t one of them.

Blunt has been in public office for pretty much his entire adult life. Time to cash in as a lobbyist.
