Too Little Too Late: The List Of 11th Hour White House Resignations | Talking Points Memo

To play devil’s advocate there may be some who are in important positions, who fear leaving these positions unoccupied this late into a transition may have real life consequences. There is a transition going on, and no mater how much we have degraded and set ourselves aflame there is still a pretty complex and dangerous world out there that doesn’t care how crazy Trump is right now. Except how it can be used.

And honestly the only thing that would matter at this point is impeachment, and mainly for the symbolism of the act. Obviously the time to act for real reasons passed 4 years ago.

Quite the tell:
'… Mick Mulvaney who later became U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland, had stepped down.

‘Mulvaney appeared to defend the decision of his colleagues who stayed telling CNBC in an interview that, “those who choose to stay, and I have talked with some of them, are choosing to stay because they’re worried the president might put someone worse in.”’

In other words, “We’re already plenty bad enough.”

Choosing to quit 2 weeks before you’re fired isn’t a protest - it’s a career move.

He then added, ”In my case there is no one worse."

Everyone thinks yesterday was the pinnacle of Trump’s descent into madness and ignominy. We’ll have to revise those thoughts once he invades Iran next week.

I’ll be ok with that if he does it personally.

Remember Trumpers believe in Democracy for themselves but not for ourselves.

"…they’re worried the president might put someone worse in.”

A glint of self-awareness from outgoing quislings.

I’m not interested in the resignations of social secretaries, although I fear that this may mean that there will be no afternoon tea next Tuesday. I’m really interested in the resignation or removal of the person who was responsible for all of the violence on Wednesday, as well as the suffering he has caused for the last four years.

If the WH team is genuinely worried about this, all the more reason for Mikey to invoke the 25th amendment for the remaining thirteen days, three hours and eight minutes.

Does anyone think Capitol security will finally awake to their duties and arrange for a brigade of Marines, tanks and armored personnel carriers to ring the area of the inauguration on the 20th? Or will we just have a replay of sorts of yesterday?

'are choosing to stay because they’re worried the president might put someone worse in.” …we are going to hear THIS excuse a lot going forward. I’m sorry…if you knew the fker was crazy NOBODY should have shielded him when impeachment came. The Republicans decided to stick their heads in the sand, not look at the evidence and vote him not guilty. You are all complicit.

Who gives a shit if they go or stay. in 2 weeks all of their asses are gone. What went down yesterday had much more significant consequences than these run aways. It ended Trump. It ensured the name Trump is never again in a lofty position in America as in Jr. or Ivanka. So let the rats stay for the final 2 weeks because it is the final 2 weeks. After that half or more of the Trump’s twitter followers will drop out and it’s all gone.

Ever the showman, Trump’s final act comes with a soundtrack:

As hundreds of pro-Trump protesters massed near the White House on Wednesday morning to protest the November election results, several pop songs were piped through loudspeakers — including Celine Dion’s theme song from the film “Titanic.”

Mulvaney got a sinecure to drink stout and play golf. A meaningless position used to shut him up. No food on that chain. He was important once; no longer.

If Trump isn’t removed from office immediately, we’ll see just what excellent guardrails those who’ve stayed on turn out to be.

OT, but your comment reminded me of Trump’s official schedule. My son-in-law, who has been working from home since March, works in the mutual fund department of an investment company. His 7 year old son describes what his father does for a living as “he makes a lot of phone calls and does important meetings all day.”

The GOP-led Senate took the action it felt would preserve its control over the upper chamber. It didn’t stick its head in the sand. It chose party over country, which I find more sinister.
