And Joe looked so harmless when he talked about these thingies in the pressers.

Ex-KGB guy on MSNBC right now saying that occupying Ukraine will be ten times as bad for Russia as trying to occupy Afghanistan.

He says Putin had visions of being hailed the next Lenin or Peter the Great.

Never fails to hit me how much Putin and TFG are alike.

Goosebumps all over with this news. I am amazed at the ability of the western world to come together and do so much to help our eastern neighbors/friends. It does us proud. Go President Biden.

Folks, there’s been some amazing sharing of places to donate to help out the Ukrainians. I just got an email from Amnesty International, Canada. They have people already on the ground documenting the first known cases of abuse and possible war crimes. They are also working with human rights organizations there to protect minority, LGBTQ, the disabled and elder rights. My partner and I donated because this is very important work to support. We all know that in times like this the vulnerable amongst us are left alone.

American

From the American site:

“As rockets are falling on Ukrainian military bases, and the first reports are coming in of the use of indiscriminate weapons by the Russian army, Amnesty International re-iterates its call on all parties to adhere strictly to international humanitarian law and international human rights law. Civilian lives, homes and infrastructure must be protected; indiscriminate attacks and the use of prohibited weapons such as cluster munitions must not take place. We also repeat our call to allow and facilitate immediate access for humanitarian agencies to provide assistance to civilians affected by the hostilities.

“It’s okay because Putin did it right OUT IN THE OPEN, you SEE?”

I noted before the invasion began that Russia has piss-poor logistical capabilities. Food and fuel are absolutely essential to keep a mechanized army functioning.

They need to do that to ALL Russian banks.

Not being an economic super- or Great power does not mean not being a political and military one. Lots more American delusion. Plus, it never seems to register in self-righteous American brains that countries can suffer a lot and for a long time if they see the cause of it as external, to wit Cuba. At the same time, it appears that Putin probably doesn’t appreciate that fact either re the Ukraine, at least beyond the pro-Russian Crimean territories. That is, he understandably doesn’t want NATO and the EU messing around on his border, any more than the U.S. wants superpowers messing around militarily anywhere in the Western Hemisphere – Monroe Doctrine anyone? – but he likely doesn’t see the price that Russia will have to pay for going after the Ukraine as a whole – and I’m referring to a lot more than money for the military or in dealing with sanctions.

Precisely! He emphatically told us who and what he is … and what he isn’t.

And their credit rating is now “junk.”

S&P Global has cut Russia’s credit rating to “junk” status in the latest sign that western sanctions are already dealing a severe blow to the country’s financial markets.

I dare say, most Americans are completely oblivious to the work that Biden and his team have accomplished and the leadership and soft power he has brought to bear on the Ukrainian crisis. So many people believe that power does not exist when it is not visible.
